The EPA reports that minor water leaks account

for more than 1 trillion gallons of water each

year in U.S. households. The lack of rain in the

Austin area  makes water loss a major concern.

We don’t have any to waste!

  • Ten Percent (10%) of homes have leaks that

waste 90 gallons of water a day.

  • On the average, leaks account for 11,000

gallons in the home every year, enough to

fill a swimming pool.

Conserve water as well as energy: Only run your dishwasher when fully loaded and in the evening when energy use is at its lowest; Wait for the hampers to get full before you wash your clothes in cold water and also reduce energy load by running washer and dryer at night. ; Wet your tooth brush, and then shut off the water while brushing.

Cheap Ways to Save 1,000 Gallons of Water a Year -

  • Reduce your shower time by one minute. Collect all your needs before turning on the water. Plan an efficient bathing routine. Shower with a bucket to collect excess for plant watering.
  • Locate and repair toilet leaks. Drip food coloring in tank and see if it appears in the bowl without flushing.
  • Turn off the tap when not needed while brushing your teeth. It is easy with a little practice.
  • Be smart about using the dishwasher. Run only for full loads. Use the short cycle. Don’t prewash.
