Awesome - thanks, Janet!  That was a good discussion, and nice that it was so recent.

Also, in case anyone is interested, attached is my paper on manifest destiny that I mentioned today, which is relevant to our discussions this month and next.

Finally, since the book discussed the deification of George Washington, it warrants reminding that practically in our backyard, is Brumidi's The Apotheosis of Washington in the US Capitol dome.

I really enjoyed your manifest destiny article.  In a much simpler manner, I recently applied some of the same concepts to American foreign policy and the growing tensions in US -China relations.  The belief in American exceptionalism is so engrained that it often makes us appear hostile and dangerous to other nations.Sheila
