Fellow Organizers,

You've probably noticed that I haven't been involved for the last couple of weeks. As you're all aware, the direction of the NY Assembly isn't quite what I envisioned. I'm glad I was able to weigh in and share a different perspective on what makes the Sunday Assembly different, and what an opportunity we have here to show the world that you can have the good parts of religion without the bad. Not to mention reach out to and connect with people who don't believe in a god but don't want that to define them. It sounds like many agree with this perspective, which is heartening. I'll be excited to see how the assembly develops.

In the meantime, however, I've stepped back from the organizer role, and instead am focusing my energies on my own project, SecularAction.org (take a sneak peek at the new version coming up at http://beta.secularaction.org!). I'll certainly be around and in touch, and look forward to seeing the assembly go on to great success!

i don't think it'll land very far from where you envisioned it.  the early sa_uk videos are in sync with what we wound up deciding, and the venue will be improving.  don't go far.  we may find those none's and prove you right.  we'll be trying.

I am sorry to hear about Michael's decision. I think he would made some really good contributions to SA.

I do appreciate that SA NYC board/organizers have politely and respectfully listened to my differing views, even when there was strong disagreement.  I feel that SA NYC is open to differing views. In case anyone was wondering, probably no one was, I intend to stay involved with SA NYC as an organizer, even if on a few issues I am in a small minority.

Greg Epstein last night gave me a lot to think about (Michael D. thanks for setting that up). One point he made reaffirmed my decision-- was that even if you don't agree 100% with an organization (when does that ever happen???), if you mostly agree with the organization you stay supportive.
Again, I am thankful that folks at least respectfully heard me out, even if not persuaded to my views.
Don's email is on target, most of SA NYC will be what I--and I think Michael T, though I can't speak for him--envisioned after coming in contact with Sanderson's vision.
Hoping Michael T. will come to SA on Sundays and if he wishes, rejoin his involvement
Best Wishes, Scott

Thanks, Michael, for your email about your decision to step back from SA-NYC.  You should always feel free to offer any insights you might have about how to reach out and market to non-believers (and believers who are "on the fence").  We can use any valuable input you might have...

yes and i have to say that the last meeting, from joe's opening remarks and woven through the various parts, made a loud and clear statement that it doesn't matter what you believe or are not sure of; you're welcome to listen, sing, socialize with us, and do good works ~

it's hard for me to think we'd have been THAT conscientous had you not made your views known.

i'll have video by end of week.
