Faisal Saeed Al-Mutar, the young Iraqi who started the wildly popular
Global Secular Humanist Movement (over 200K FB followers), will be in
NYC on 9/29. He was granted political asylum here in the US earlier
this year b/c his life had been endangered due to death threats made
as a result of passion for humanism. Greg Epstein recently invited
Faisal to speak at Harvard's Humanist service. I've met him a couple
of times and I think he'd be a great guest for us. He will
undoubtedly promote this on his widely visited FB page and I believe
that promotion would also help SAE. Here's a link to his
organization's FB page:

There are also a couple of other people we could likely get to speak
that day, too, but there is the consideration of making the line-up
too "atheist-heavy", if people really want to avoid that. However, we
do need to book speakers ASAP, so if anyone has any other suggestions,
please provide them with the appropriate contact info so we can get to
them in a timely manner.
My other suggestions for speakers next month would be Ayanna Watson,
who started Black Atheists of America and organized the recent
Blackout Secular Rally in Queens. I met Ayanna not long ago and she
was enthusiastic about doing it. And I could also reach out to
Katherine Stewart, who wrote the NY Times best-selling book "The Good
News Club", about evangelical churches' nationwide mission to
indoctrinate elementary school children. Katherine lives in Boston
but she might be available to come to NYC to do it.
I'm confident we could have all these speakers tailor their talks to
fit SA-NYC's tone.
