This created some confusion at launch, as many didn't know if the problems they're running into are caused by the launcher, or the game itself. Seemingly copping that some of these are indeed the fault of the launcher, Rockstar released a new update to take care of some of the most common.
As the name suggests, Simple Quake Launcher is a small and straightforward launcher tool for Windows that lets you run every available Quake level on your computer. All you need to do is drop the EXE into your Quake installation, then select the engine, mod/level and difficulty setting, and off you go. It can't get any easier than that.
Rockstar has acknowledged the issues, and the legions of irritated fans, and sent out an update for the Rockstar Games launcher that should hopefully mitigate a few of the issues players have been experiencing.
The release notes for update v1.0.9.164 detail that a number of problems surrounding the Rockstar Games Launcher have been fixed, including preload decryption problems, and a variety of other issues preventing Red Dead Redemption 2 from launching. It's unclear whether this has solved all the issues, however, as dozens of replies to Rockstar Support's tweet claim that problems persist despite the update.
According to the r/PCRedDead launch issues megathread, some players have had success by disabling their antivirus software before running the game. Others have reported success after updating their BIOS, manually updating Windows, or apparently even physically unplugging their hard drives. A few players found a solution to the "activation required" launch error, which involves logging out of the Rockstar launcher before logging back in again.
Given Rockstar only unveiled its new launcher back in September, the launch problems with Red Dead Redemption 2 aren't a particularly great look for its shiny new platform. If you want a full breakdown of how well Red Dead Redemption 2 runs on PC, hang tight for Digital Foundry's analysis, which is currently in the works. Hopefully the remaining launch issues will be revolvered soon.
The Google Now Launcher was released as an exclusively for the Nexus 5, but we were always able to extract the necessary apk files of the launcher and have it installed on just about any Android device. And it worked almost perfectly for all the devices we tested it on so this still bugs me to know that Google has still kept the launcher as exclusive (only available for its own family of devices).
The following is a list of versions that are not included in the Java Edition launcher. If a version is labeled as edited, it means that the META-INF files in the jar are dated differently from the release date. This is because when these versions were added (in 2013), the META-INF had to be renewed. Versions labeled as edited are currently in the launcher; if a version is listed but not labeled as edited, it is not available in the launcher.
Even though the newest Java Edition launcher includes an option to download a version's cross-platform server .jar file (whether it be for release or a development version), this does not apply to all versions. The official Minecraft server program started to be developed when Multiplayer Test was released to the public (0.0.15a (Multiplayer Test 1)). After Classic 0.30 (Creative) was released, servers were removed from the game, which is why multiplayer is not available in Indev and Infdev versions of the game. Servers were reintroduced to the game when Alpha v1.0.15 was released (however, versions as early as Alpha v1.0.5 had multiplayer code in them, though it was unusable, except to Notch, who used the code to test multiplayer), and they have been consistently updated since. There are programs available that allow connection to Classic, Alpha, and Beta servers.
The Minecraft Launcher was released during Alpha v1.0's development. This launcher could not update itself, and each time a new update was released for the launcher, a player would have to download it from minecraft.net. This launcher was developed from 2010 to 2013, and is still available to be downloaded from archived versions of its page. It is not known how many versions of this launcher existed.
During the 1.6.1 snapshots, a new launcher was released. This launcher was built to update itself, and the player could now have the launcher window and the game window open at the same time. The player could also switch what version they were playing without having to replace minecraft.jar in the bin directory. This launcher was developed from 2013 to 2018, whether or not it can still be downloaded is not known. The latest version is 1.6.91.
The latest Minecraft Launcher was made available to the public by Dinnerbone on October 26, 2016, through a twitter statement and a post on the Minecraft Reddit community. This launcher no longer required java to be installed to run it, downloaded its own runtime for the game, and had more advanced features compared to other versions of the launcher. This launcher has been under steady development since 2016, and the current stable release of this launcher is 2.8.2 for Windows 7+, for Windows 10+ (Microsoft Store/Xbox app), 2.8.2 for macOS, and 2.8.2 for Linux.
Previous version of BubbleUPnP (0.9-update40) introduced a bug in the launcher (BubbleUPnPServerLauncher.jar) that prevents BubbleUPnP Server 0.9-update40 to update to this new version (either manually via web interface or automatically). To fix it, you must manually download BubbleUPnPServerLauncher.jar and replace it in the server install directory:
An updated BubbleUPnPServerLauncher.jar addresses this issue. On existing installs, it cannot be automatically updated. To update to this new launcher you can either do a full reinstall of BubbleUPnP Server for your platform or attempt to manually update yourexisting install with one of these methods:
En respuesta a las quejas de los jugadores en redes sociales, Rockstar ha actualizado su launcher y ha publicado consejos para solucionar el problema, aunque muchos de ellos aseguran que sigue ocurriendo lo mismo.
Epic Games Launcher proves to be problematic for the Easy Anti-Cheat, yet they are not even related remotely as the game launches on Steam. So, be sure to close the instance of the epic games launcher before launching Elden Ring. You can easily ensure the instance is removed from the computer by following these steps on the Task Manager.
