Hello everyone,

These questions are based on the January 2010 issue. I hope we all
have received ours by now!

1. What does Megan Kruse's essay "Constellations" say about the
sometimes fuzzy line between victimization and responsibility? Do you
think that if a battered woman voluntarily returns to her abuser, she
loses the right to sympathy? Were you just as frustrated as Kruse was
when Laura let her abuser know where the safe house was?

2. Did it bother you that Louis E. Bourgeois used the word "cripple"
in his essay "Two Days (Or, The Joys of Being on Television)"? Would
it have bothered you more if the word appeared in a story written by a
non-amputee? Do you agree with the idea that certain words are out-of-
bounds to writers who don't belong to certain subgroups?
