Topics for July 10th meeting

Hello everyone,

Here are the topics for the July 10th meeting, taken from the July
2010 issue:

1. Regarding the interview with Malidoma Some, teacher of ritual:

a. Do you feel that you have missed something by not going through an
"initiation" the way Some describes it? Can African-style initiation
translate to the industrialized world en masse (and not just to those
who actively seek it out)?

b. Did it put you off when Some started talking about "ancestors" (the
dead) and "technologies" such as levitation and walking on water? Can
such technologies be literally true, or must they be metaphorical? Is
the world really "all magical" -- or do you insist on seeing it before
you can believe it?

2. Gillian Kendall's "Not Another Word" go me thinking about silent
meditation retreats. I would not attend any retreat which disallowed
reading and/or writing. Is this a shortcoming? Or do we all have
"dealbreakers" when it comes to spiritual events? (But should we?)
