Sekiwake Daieishou, who has never missed a day till now, is out with pain in the right calf. Endou is also out- He had surgery yesterday on his right knee (finally..) Daieishou was up for a possible Ozeki promotion. Both from Oitekaze-beya. Daieishou entering later? Oitekaze Oyakata said about Daieishou's mid-tournament appearance, "I hope he can participate, but I don't know what will happen" He said that he had originally injured himself during training at his stable in Soka City, Saitama and had been recovering, but his injury worsened earlier this month while he was training in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, where he is staying, in preparation for Nagoya. "Once the time passes and (the muscles) heal, he'll be able to wrestle again. First he needs to heal his injury. There's no point in rushing," he said, explaining that if his recovery is delayed, he may have to take a complete break. His consecutive bout appearances will end at 1070.

After Endou's surgery the night before, he called Oitekaze Oyakata to say, "It went well." The surgery was not endoscopic, but "open surgery"  This time it was only on his right knee, but since both knees are injured, there is a possibility that he will have surgery on his left knee in the future. It is certain that he will take a complete rest from this basho, and it is highly likely that he will fall to Juryo next tournament. Oitekaze stablemaster said, "It will take one or two months (to return). For now, he will do his best to prepare for the next tournament," and expressed his hope that he will be able to participate in the Aki basho in September.

In Juryo, 10W injury-plagued Nabatame  will be kyujo as well.
