Yokozuna Oonosato , who missed the final day of the Kyushu basho due to left shoulder pain, worked up a sweat at Nishonoseki beya in Ami Town, Ibaraki Prefecture, on the 25th, gradually picking up pace in preparation for Hatsu Basho. In addition to his usual keiko of pushing opponents, he began training to block hits. He presented his left shoulder and chest area, which had been a source of concern, to a younger rikishi, saying with a serious expression, "I'm glad I was able to check my shoulder. The banzuke has been announced, so I need to get into basho mode. I want to be in good spirits for the first day." During the winter tour, which he took a complete break from, he seriously practiced shiko and suriashi an the heya's training hall. "My lower body is fine. I'm confident," he said, showing satisfaction with the improvement of his lower body. "My upper body hasn't been very useful for about a month. When my upper body moves well, I have a certain degree of confidence. I want to improve the coordination between my upper and lower body," citing the recovery of his upper body as the key to his comeback.

The 24th was Christmas Eve, but he said with a wry smile, "I almost forgot. I was doing keiko yesterday and today." He will continue practicing until the 30th, and will start again on January 2nd in the new year. The 25-year-old yokozuna is determined to devote himself to sumo over the New Year holidays.
