The Kyokai announced on the 30th, at a board meeting held at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, that it will revise the salaries and allowances of rikishi starting from the January tournament next year. Monthly salaries will be increased by approximately 10%. Yokozuna will increase from the current 3 million yen to 3.3 million yen, Ozeki from 2.5 million yen to 2.75 million yen, and Sanyaku from 1.8 million yen to 2 million yen. This is the first revision of the salaries of Sekitori in eight years, since 2019. Rikishi Makushita and below will also see a 6-9% increase in their tournament allowances, as well as increases in their win bonuses and kachikoshi  bonuses. The aim is to improve the treatment of all rikishi and the head of public relations, Fujishima Oyakata explained, "We compared it with other sports. The prize money for a Makuuchi yusho is 20 million yen, and it's worth that much." This is the first revision of the prize money for the yusho and the prize money for the three special prizes in 33 years, since 1994. In the previous revision, the prize money for a Makuuchi yusho was raised from 5 million yen to 10 million yen.

◆Revised monthly salaries for rikishi from the January 2027 tournament (163 yen to the dollar)

Yokozuna: 3 million yen → 3.3 million yen (+300,000 yen)

Ozeki: 2.5 million yen → 2.75 million yen (+250,000 yen)

Sanyaku: 1.8 million yen → 2 million yen (+200,000 yen)

Makuuchi: 1.4 million yen → 1.55 million yen (+150,000 yen)

Juryo: 1.1 million yen → 1.2 million yen (+100,000 yen)

Makuuchi: 10 million yen → 20 million yen (+10 million yen)

Juryo: 2 million yen → 3 million yen (+1 million yen)

Makushita: 500,000 yen → 700,000 yen (+200,000 yen)

Sandanme: 300,000 yen → 500,000 yen (+200,000 yen)

Jonidan: 200,000 yen → 300,000 yen (+100,000 yen)

Jonokuchi: 100,000 yen → 200,000 yen (+100,000 yen)
