Kyushu basho 2024 starts this Sunday November 10th and runs through November 24th.
Maegashira West 9 Takayasu trained today at the Tokitsukaze Ichimon rengo keiko held at Tokitsukaze beya. He was looking good, facing the likes of Kirishima and Wakamotoharu. "I'm in goo shape so I'm going out for degeiko. I'm pretty much ready. I want to be part of the excitement next basho and hope my preparations are good enough," he said
Ozeki Houshouryuu was at the Tokitsukaze rengo keiko as well, facing Kirishima (4-3), Wakamotoharu, Wakatakakage, Shoudai and others and was 16-3. He hasn't yushoed since Nagoya last year. "I've been training well during the the Autumn jungyo and after and am feeling good. I want to win that yusho for the first time in a while.." he explained.
Kirishima himself, aiming for a return to Ozeki this basho (needs 13 wins) had the most bouts among the sekitori- 25. He showed a lot of confidence and the neck pain seems to be a thing of the past. "I'm thinking of the possible re-promotion, sure, but if I think only of that, my body will become weak.. I will be concentrating on each bout at hand and will count my wins after the final day, " he said.
