Sewanin Ex-Mutsuhokkai (Mutsu Hawk-eye, as he was affectionately known) has passed away. He died on the 2nd at a hospital in Tokyo. He was 61 years old. He had a pre-existing heart condition and had been absent from Haru. Mutsuhokkai, a native of Hidaka Town, Hokkaido, dropped out of high school after one year and joined Ajigawa beya, formerly run by Sekiwake Mutsuarashi. He made his professional sumo debut in Haru of 1981. In April 1993, after former Yokozuna Asahifuji, who was attached to the heya, took over, he was promoted to Juryo in the Aki of the same year. His highest rank was East Juryo 6, and he was in Juryo for 10 bashos. He retired after the January 2004 basho and became a sewanin for the Kyokai, handling general administrative tasks. He was currently affiliated with Isegahama beya.
