Due to transportation delays, two Jonidan rikishi were unable to make it to their bouts in time, resulting in the order of their matches being rearranged. Amidaishin (17) and Tanaka (19) ,Nishonoseki beya in Ami Town, Ibaraki Prefecture, boarded the Joban Line from JR Hitachino-Ushiku Station around 7:40 AM, but the train was delayed. Concerned that they might not make it to their bouts, they contacted the wakaimonogashira of the Kokugikan through their heya's manager around 9 AM. The two then took a taxi from Minami-Senju Station and rushed to the Kokugikan, arriving around 10:10 AM. Making a mad dash to the dressing room, Tanaka made it just in time for his bout, pushing out Tochihayate for his third consecutive win. Tanaka commented, "I wasn't even able to warm up, but that might have been a good thing... It was a first-time experience for me."

Meanwhile, Amidaishin was unable to make it in time for his bout, so was placed after Tanaka's match. He was defeated by Fukushouryuu by yoritaoshi. Amidaishin said, "After I arrived, I did my mage, wrapped my mawashi around me, and went straight in. My usual bad habits came out (in the bout). (The delay) didn't have much of an impact," and made no excuses. His Oyakata Nishonoseki was a shinpan, but "I couldn't see my Oyakata's face." The rikishi at Shikihide beya in Ryugasaki, Ibaraki Prefecture, were also affected. Ooatari was unable to make it in time for his bout, so he was placed 13 bouts later. However, he was defeated by Kotofuno by oshidashi.

5 rikishi in all were late. An announcement was made in the arena: "Attention everyone. Due to transportation delays, the match between XX and XX will resume upon arrival."The five rikishi consisted of three from Nishonoseki and two from  Shikihide.
