Everyone's favorite Enhou sends his regards. He had 2 bouts at the soken today. "I was checking out my senses and the atmosphere. I was able to get a good look at my opponent." Due to a life-threatening neck injury (cervical spine = herniated disc), he had missed seven consecutive basho, including one midway through the 2023 Natsu Basho. He returned from Jonokuchi at the Nagoya Basho last July. and has had 6 wins and 1 loss in the last five bashos. He has risen in the rankings from Makushita 30 last basho to Makushita 10, a rank where a 7-0 will automatically get him promoted to Juryo. While saying he is "progressing well," he also kept his feet on the ground, saying, "The last basho was the last basho. I'm making the most of it and using it as a stepping stone. This basho, I'm doing my best."
