Sekiwake Kirishima  has secured his return to the rank of Ozeki. On the 14th day, the day before, he won his third yusho in 14 bashos, but on the final day he was pushed out by Ozeki Kotozakura and suffered another defeat. He finished with a record of 12 wins and 3 losses, but his yusho win was highly praised. The Kyokai's judging department, which is in charge of promotion decisions, requested an extraordinary board meeting to consider his promotion to Ozeki from Chairman Hakkaku and it was approved. There has never been a case where an extraordinary board meeting was held and the promotion to Ozeki was refused. He was demoted from Ozeki in the summer basho of 2024, but has made a comeback with 34 wins in the last three bashos. After the ranking committee meeting and extraordinary board meeting on the 25th, "Ozeki Kirishima" will be born once again. Hakkaku praised him, saying, "Isn't this the result of Kirishima's hard work? I think it must have been tough when he couldn't practice due to injury. His victory over Houshouryuu in this basho was significant." He cited the tachiai as a challenge for the future, and expressed his hopes for future success. "Ozeki, is not the final station so I wonder if he can rise higher?"
