Meisei kyujo- why?

Meisei injury: The Kyokai released the medical certificate for M18E Meisei who will be kyujo from shonichi. He was examined at a hospital in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, and the certificate, dated the 6th, stated, "He had a lumbar disc herniation. As a result of the above diagnosis, he underwent surgery on October 17th, 2025 and will require approximately one month of rehabilitation following the surgery." Unless he can get a kachikoshi if he enters mid-basho, he will be demoted to Juryo for next basho. This will be the second time the former Sekiwake has been kyujo since the 2020 Hatsu basho.
