A "Scan List" is a way to setup a list of unrelated channels that you want to scan for activity. Scan lists are good for scanning talkgroups on different timeslots, multiple repeaters and mixed modes like analog and digital. Scan lists are probably best suited for travel when you might be moving between different repeater systems and want to be able to be continuously connected to the network. The scan list will allow you to transmit on the last heard channel so you will always be transmitting on whatever you heard last without the need to change anything on the radio.

One word of caution, I have read several sources that say scanning is very slow and consumes more battery power. I don't regularly use scan lists so I can't comment on this.
