The following changes have been made to the repeater:

The North America Talk Group on Time Slot 1 is now PTT instead of Full Time. This gives us an extra TS to use for local traffic without having to worry about interruptions from the NA TG and also keeps the NA TG from interrupting the WW TG net on Saturdays at noon. If you want to listen to or use the NA TG then you can link the repeater to it by going to the NA TG channel on TS1 and key up on it for a second or two. After 15 minutes of no activity the repeater will automatically un-link from the NA TG. If you want to use TS1 for local communication at this time use COMM1, it is also a PTT TG however it does link to the internet so other repeaters could link to it as well so make sure the TG is clear before using it. I am checking to see if we can use either or both of the "Local" TG's on TS1 as well.

The Midwest Regional (MW) TG on TS 2 is now PTT instead of FT. This keeps us from having to worry about interruptions from the MW TG and also keeps the MW TG from interrupting the Ohio ARES Net on Wednesday nights at  8:30 PM. If you want to listen to or use the MW TG then you can link the repeater to it by going to the MW TG channel on TS2 and key up on it for a second or two. After 15 minutes of no activity the repeater will automatically un-link from the TG.

Good changes Ken.

I've found NA being full time on slot 1 to be occasionally interesting, but usually annoying. The direction you're going makes a lot more sense to me -  to keep a slot for PTT talkgroups and local traffic. I've looked over how lots of other repeaters are setup in the past couple weeks as I've been tweaking codeplugs, and it's all over the place. Some have Local2 and Local9 available on both slots, some have Ohio full time on slot 1 and everything else PTT, some have nothing full time, etc. On one hand - all the differences make it hard to make & maintain codeplugs, but it's also nice to see machines tailor things to how they're used. I like to say "the nice thing about standards is that there's so many different ones to choose from".

If you can make Local2 & Local9 available on both slots it'd be pretty convenient, although maybe a little confusing. It would allow 2 simultaneous local QSOs, but might make it harder to get two people to connect. It might be something interesting to try.

Thanks John,

That is exactly where I was going with the changes. I thought it would be better to try and improve local access to the machine, on both time slots, but still allow some flexibility for users to choose what they want to listen to. I am going to check with our C-Bridge owner tonight and find out if there is any problem using both "Local" TG's on either TS. I don't think it will matter for Local 9 because it isn't setup to go anywhere anyway, other than just the local machine. Currently Local 2 is setup exactly the same way but if we wanted to interconnect machines Local 2 would be used for that. I'll keep everyone informed about the Local TG situation as soon as I have more information. I agree with you, there are many repeaters out there that have completely unique setups. Most likely these machines are on Brandmeister where anything goes as far as how you want your repeater setup. I now understand why the DMR-MARC guys try to exercise some control over how repeaters are configured, it certainly keeps things more "constant" between machines.

Are the tactical channels set up as PTT?  It seems like there isn't much traffic on the tacticals other than the TAC310 net, so I wasn't sure they were PTT or just not very busy.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Yes, all tactical TG's have always been setup as PTT groups. If you go to "Minimal Netwatch" on the K4USD site:

you can see all the traffic on the network (both DMR-MARC and Brandmeister) and what talk groups are active.

Just to follow up on the Local TG 9 on TS1. It is OK now to use Local 9 on TS1 if TS2 is busy with other traffic, Local or Ohio State.
