Hi Summexers.
I wanted to share with you our volunteer experiences in China.
I am fuzzy about the details with this first one, but we will be visiting a home for children whose parents are in prison. We will find out more about this later from our guide.
The second opportunity is to visit a YMCA center in Shanghai for senior citizens and adults with autism. We will be volunteering along with 10 local high school and college students, so we'll get to interact with more than one generation. We will be put on the spot a little with this one -- they want to us to "sing or dance" for the group. Yes, you heard me. I balked a little at that but then thought we can make it work, and it is certain to be memorable. I am open to suggestion. Mr. Miller said we should sing "Lean On Me." Maybe we could do a group dance like the "Cha Cha Slide." Something patently American and goofy. I don't think our audience will be too picky -- they just want to see us having fun.
Following our "performance," we'll be potting a few plants for them along with the young Chinese volunteers before we say goodbye.
Thoughts?
