Hey guys,

I just wanted to say an official farewell to the summer. It was an incredible experience working with all of you and definitely one of the most memorable work experiences I've ever had. I feel lucky to have gotten up every day excited to go to work and, most importantly, be with all of you - despite my many hours in the fuckus room!

After my last day, Pia's mom and sister were in town and then last Monday she and I went up to Lopez Island for three days and had an amazing time. I've attached link to our photo album below. Susan, there are a few toward the end that involve me picking blackberries - I took those especially for you. Blackberry bushes are apparently an invasive species around here and they lined the roadsides all across the island. I was in hog heaven and constantly stopping on my bike to stuff my face full of their deliciousness. One time, the roadside ditch was so well hidden by the tall grasses that I took a step too far and literally just collapsed into the bramble. Pia had to come pull me out and I was scratched up from head to toe. I considered them my blackberry picking battle wounds and wore them as a badge of courage the rest of the trip.

Well that's all for now you crazy peeps. You guys are all welcome in our guest room anytime you are in Seattle. Please come visit.

Take care,
Luke

Luke! Your trip looks amazing!! I am so jealous :)
I miss you guys dearly! I would miss Susan most if I hadn't just seen her and her daughter Sarah for lunch the other day :)
She looks great! (she was wearing her yellow pants!) and her daughter is a rockstar.. so sweet and all awesome like Susan.
I'm out in NYC working on some research for the start-up. Was supposed to head to Beirut today but we canceled the plans since the Syrian situation has now started to affect parts of Lebanon. I went through a similar situation in Nigeria in January and the thought of getting stuck in another country with no access to the airports made me nauseous. Even though that's sad news, the awesome news is that I'm coming back to Seattle early (so Pia and Luke- get ready for a double date!) and then heading to CA next week.
As for the start up.. Foursquare just launched something similar to our idea so we're figuring out our strategy right now and how we'll pivot given this new info.
Hope you all are well! I miss our moments in the elbow more than you know :)
Max

I am sitting here at my computer missing you all as well -- but quite relieved to hear that Max is are not on her way to Beirut.  It was so wonderful to get to see her here -- and I'm looking forward to more of the same come October.  Hoping, too, that all of you will get out this way sometime soon!

My Gates summer just ended Friday.  Because we were waiting on some external feedback, I used up my last few days over the course of the past week. Everything's been turned over now, so I'm ready to turn to new things.

It's been a lovely weekend -- our son, Matt, was home for the weekend.  He turns 21 on Weds, so we got a little early celebrating done.  It actually cool right now -- there's a soft breeze blowing through the living room (those new windows!), but it's got almost inperceptible nip that says fall is on its way.  My favorite time of year, ahhh...

Hope all the new things in your lives -- jobs, apartments, advisors -- bring you much happiness!

Susan
