Wow next week is the week and we are heading into the mountains! :)

Sorry that you haven't heard from me sooner. I have been sick for the
past 2 weeks with giaradia and lost 15 lbs.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/niffgurd/2653872312/

But the good news is that I am on meds since last week and feeling
around 85%. I went running this morning and am feeling better.

Ok here comes a long email.

So here is the "final" list of who is coming, as far as I know.

Me.
Joe Rudd
Brian Rudd (?)
Josh Griffith
Eddie Oniel (though I haven't seen a purchased ticket yet :) )
Scott Barentsen

Logistics.

Group Boyscouts :
Monday I and a bunch of scouts and other leaders will start on the 50
miler. We'll be hiking Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.

Group Boise :
Tuesday : Joe, Brian and Josh will drive over from Boise and camp at
Cooper Lake

Group Issaquah :
Tuesday Evening : Eddie will fly in from Denver, Scott will fly in from Oakland
They will make their way to my house and crash on the basement floor
Wednesday Morning : Paul Currit will pick them up at my house, time to
be pre-arranged Paul cc'd on this mail home phone : 425-313-7679 and
drive up to Cooper Lake.

Wednesday Morning

Paul Currit, Eddie, Scott will meet Joe, Brian and Josh at Cooper Lake
they will form the Wednesday Walkers

Directions to Cooper Lake

They will start the Pete Lake trailhead, taking the first turn off up
Tired Creek Trail over Waptus Pass down to Waptus Lake

More details on where we will meet and about that leg of the trip
later. In the meantime the Wednesday Walkers are responsible for
printing their version of the map and getting to Waptus Lake.

We'll all camp Wednesday evening at Waptus Lake. Thursday morning the
boy scouts will continue on their 50 miler and we'll head out on our
itinerary :

GEAR GEAR GEAR :

Sleeping :

I am planning on taking my bivy, I am torn between bringing my summer
bag (good to 40 degrees) and the size of a two grapefruits, though it
weights considerably less, and my lightweight bag which is a bit
bigger. Here is why. Friday night we could camp at a high camp up on
Daniels on a ridge where things could be cooler. I am not planning on
taking a tent then. I have tents if anyone wants me to send one up
with Paul, Eddie, Scott.

Clothing :

With the previous we could have a cool night or two so i'd definitely
bring a light weight jacket you can put on and a hat. Also we'll be
going on some "bushwhacky" type of terrain so i'd also bring a pair of
pants as well as a light weight long sleeve shirt. These will also be
useful if there are bugs, given the late snow melt we could be hitting
the hatch. Gaiters if you have them might also help for the
bushwhacking as well. Poles should help. If you have a mosquito
netting that might be a good idea as well.

Snow :

We got 200% of normal snowfall this year. That is right twice the
amount. So things have been a lot slower melting out than normal. We
will see snow on Daniel, but there is snow there year round because
there is a glacier there. We should not be doing snow travel to get
up to our camp though, the trail should be snow clear up to there.
There will be no need for crampons and I don't think a need for an ice
ax, though I'll probably bring mine just in case.

Cooking :

Your own your own. :) We have 6 people, its nice to have a stove for
every 2 to 3 people. I will have a stove with me : whisperlite.
Looks like we could do me, Eddie and Josh (he's my brother after all)
in one cooking group and Joe, Brian and Scott in another. Joe do you
have a stove you'll be bringing? I have another MSR pocket rocket that
requires canisters that I can have Scott bring up.

I will be bringing a light weight Frying Pan, Fish Fry and Olive Oil.
I'll also be bringing a fishing pole. I am really hoping that the fish
will be biting in some of the most remote lakes in the area and we can
eat them! :)

It would be nice if we had some desert ideas one for Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday night? I'll take Wednesday night, if we could get
volunteers for the other nights. Bring enough for all.

Saturday when we hike down to Cathedral Lake. I am still looking for
someone to drive us back around to Cooper Lake and then drive Eddie,
Scott and I back down to Issaquah while Joe and crew head back to
Boise.

Any other questions let me know!

More details to come........

Cheers
mbg

Glad you're feeling better Mark. Eddie - let me know when you're coming
in so we can (hopefully) share a shuttle to Mark's place. I have a
jetboil stove and the group cooking pot that I can bring. I can't bring
the canister fuel on the airplane, but according to the Southwest
website I can bring the stove. Mark - I'm shopping for a bivy sack.
Which one do you use? Thx.

Scott--

Will do; will be picking up a ticket tomorrow. The stove
arrangements sound fine; Mark, just make sure we're stocked with the
appropriate canisters to bring up on Wednesday.

I'll take dessert on Thursday.

RE bivy sacks, the one I've got / like / used before is the Bibler
Tripod Bivy.

See everyone next week.

For Eddie and Scott. Let me know if you need to pick anything up this
week and I'll leave it at the house for you.

Joe I think this means you can plan on the crew from Issaquah arriving
at Cooper Lake between 7:30 and 8 am.

cheers

Eddie and Scott,

I'm planning to leave early, so please purchase whatever gear you need
the night before because there won't be time to shop Wednesday
morning. There's an REI and a Joe's sporting goods in Issaquah. I'll
pick you up at Mark's house at 5:30am.

Thanks,
Paul
