I love June so much I changed my birthday celebration to the first
week end in June.
Like everyone else on this site there is nothing better than the
overcast skies of June. A few years ago I listened to this women
complain nearl every day through out may and june about there being
"no sun". When the heat of october soared, my head was socked in with
alergies and in addition to nursing the pain of my migraine, i mumbled
a few sentences about not liking the weather. She snarled at me and
said "bitch, bitch, bitch, you never like anything. Do you ever feel
like you're miss understood? Like people just can't imagine what
you're talking about?

PS. I get especially deressed when it's hot in September, October
and, November. I grew up in Colorado and I can't let go of my
dissapointment that autum doesn't arive in the fall here.

Hi DM,
I feel exactly the same as you. I love the June gloom! Everyone today at work was complaining about the weather, but I simply kept my mouth shut! (I live in L.A.) I also CANNOT STAND the heat waves in the fall...I also have allergies and get major headaches. When it doesn't cool down at least by October, I am a mess.

Regards,
Liz

I was living in Pasadena (still work out there), but recently moved to the south bay coast: I AM LOVING seeing those clouds roll in at around 6pm, with that ocean wind. I'll never leave the coast again.

Maybe that is what I should do. Change my birthday to another month.
I always thought it was a cruel joke that I was born in July since I
never celebrate because of the heat. I think I would try for
Thanksgiving though. it should be cooler by then. I keep quiet when
everyone is complaining about June Gloom. I sit there smiling like
the cat who swallowed the canary. I love every minute of the gloom.
Every once inawhile a friend will look at me and say "you are very
happy aren't you with this weather". Happy Birthday this weekend.

I just wrote my story and tried to send it to summer-sad@googlegroups .com and it will not go.  I joined and everything and am getting individual messages from you sad people, but cannot move.  Any ideas? Jean

June Gloom, at least in LA, is a few weeks of gray skies in the morning, which usually burn off in the afternoon.  There is also sometimes a May Gray.  I compare 'gloom' to weather in other places I've lived, so it is all relative.  This is only my third year here and I'm far from acclimated--up until last year I'd never even noticed or heard of a June Gloom.

Something that burns off in the afternoon, and only a few weeks of this?  At first I thought it was more smog than gloom-ha!  June Gloom--what a joke!  In Seattle one year we had almost three months straight of overcast--that, my friends, is a gloom!

Just the other day a co-worker pointed outside and said, see it's nice and gloomy for you!  I scoffed!  I would barely call it a 'haze'--I pointed out that you could see the sun, and faint patches of blue.  To him, this still counted as bad weather.

I have to say there does seem to be more of it than last year, altho this year it has barely rained at all.  I'm doing my best to wake up early, because if you're up at 6-7am then by noon when it starts to burn you really feel like you've had a bit of gray weather.  I keep reminding myself of how brutally hot July is, and keeping that perspective, this June Gloom is a little piece of heaven ;-)

I too love the May Gray, and the June Gloom.  Not gloomy to me, just nice and cool!  I get up very early, sometimes against my better judgement, just to walk outdoors with a cup of coffee or tea, and watch the birds and also my dog chase an occasional rabbit from our garden.  If I get my grocery shopping done very early, then I can close the shutters and enjoy the rest of the day inside.  Not at all looking forward to July!!

Has anyone ever pointed out that freeway traffic seems much lighter in June-Gloom (overcast days)?--so long as there's no precipitation involved. I've been noticing this in the past couple of years.

That's because most of the colleges and universities are done for the semester, less people on the highways....don't ya love it????

Whoops. Thanks. I guess I'm too focused on the weather.
Either that or I better think about going back to college, too.
