to Summer SAD
How is everyone doing this summer? So far I've been doing very well,
knock on wood! Of course those sauna-hellacious Santa Ana winds
haven't arrived yet....but I'm ready for them this year! I think
knowing I have this disorder now has really helped me cope .....how
about you?

I keep saying it but really....soon I'll get that chat room going !!

Sauna Anas--that's funny.
For me, moving closer to the beach I find more people who hate hot
weather.
It's been a better summer for me, too.

Lol Lex that is clever...Suana Anas...!  I'll start calling them that. I'm glad you're doing ok too Lex...did you move closer to the beach recently?

THis year is definitely cooler than last year...so far. Love those overcast days in early August...what a difference a little gray sky makes!  Plus I set up a "fan system" in my apartment for maximum cooling!  I got this fan that literally sounds like an airplane propeller..it truly is amazing even the neighbors notice it sucking air out of their apartment when we have it on!

....this week things are starting to get to me with the sun and heat, but nowhere near as bad as last year.  I guess it makes sense for cool-minded people being close to the beach I certainly plan on moving that direction!  Anyway I wonder about heat intolerance....I've never cared for suanas..they have always made me feel ill.  But I wonder if that is why in the LA Times article they mention thyroid conditions as potentially contributing to Summer SAD.....since thyroid is also a cause of heat intolerance.  I read a few descriptions that were very vague about heat intolerance, but then I read some quotes from people who have it saying they get swollen limbs and can't stand 70 degrees etc. so I definitely don't have that.....but it's interesting the thyroid is implicated in both.  I haven't gotten around to getting my levels tested to compare to my winter-time results, but then again I don't think I'm in a Summer SAD depression yet.  I need to get my hands on more scholarly articles... need to finish that article I said I'd read in my blog!  So much to do..... !!  For the time being I'm just glad I'm getting through the days this summer...it's like I have my life back!  At the same time, having left twice this summer .....it gets harder to come back.....knowing how great it was up in Big Sur.....sigh!

Hi Everyone,
How are you all doing?

Besides our current heatwave, I am so excited that August is almost over, the nights are getting longer and September is around the corner.  I know we may get an Indian Summer in September, but as long as the nights get longer, I am crazy happy.  My sinuses were acting up for a few weeks really bad, but right now they seem fine.  Anyone else with sinus problems?

Cheers,
Liz

Hi Liz sorry to hear about your sinuses..I haven't had a problem...usually only when there is heavy pollen and there hasn't been lately to my knowledge...but maybe it's local to where you are (pollen in Santa Monica seems worse than other areas for some reason...I don't know where you are but I'm just saying...SoCal is full of little microclimates).....or from being run down (that does it to me, too).

I am loving these cooler nights.....!!

RE: thyroid. I read about heat intolerance in regards to that, too.
I have a horrible time in the heat. I get dizzy, numb, blah blah blah. I'm actually rather "afraid" of the sun in the summer.
My doc is treating me for Mitral Valve Prolapse (heart issue). I should press my doc more on the thyroid thing (getting good health care sucks--they're too busy).

I would love to live in San Francisco...sigh.

But, yeah: I too am so excited that this cooler summer is almost over for another year. And it's nice to hear from heat haters like yourself.

Big Sur. It gets hot there in the summer, doesn't it?

C'ya,
Lex
