Dear Summer of Solutions participants, past and present:

Over this past summer, you (or your co-workers) in the Summer of Solutions likely got a lot of emails from me regarding all the great work that was happening across the country to develop solutions projects.  Well, the summer has ended, but the solutions have kept on coming. Locally, several projects have continued into the school year, carrying on the energy from the summer to become sustained community efforts.  On the national scale, our non-profit (Grand Aspirations) has already begun working for next year's program.

However, we need your help to make next summer's program happen.

More than 15 folks from all over the country have volunteered to collaboratively build Grand Aspirations. Each of these members are applying skills they learned this summer and gaining new ones as they go. Each of these teams have a good start with a plan for the semester, but need your help to create the kind of shift that will make Summer of Solutions rock-solid next year.

Joining a working group is the best way to advance the Summer of Solutions this semester.  You can join from wherever you are and commit whatever amount of time and expertise works for you.  Three groups - the Organizational Development, Communications, and Funding groups - would particularly benefit from your help, no matter what level of experience or expertise you have. Check them out!

Organizational Development
The Organizational Development Working Group works to set up the structure of Grand Aspirations as a national non-profit with regional coordination hubs and local sites of action. We explore how to make it function and set up partnerships with other innovative youth leadership groups. The OrgDev group is a great opportunity to for anyone who wants experience in actually seeing how organizations work, innovate, and grow.
Please contact Matt Kazinka (mkaz...@gmail.com) to join the Organizational Development group.
Communications
The Communications Working Group works to make Grand Aspirations accessible, open, exciting, and well-known. Working with them is an opportunity to develop skills in outreach, messaging, new media outlets, design, and more.  The Communications group would love your help with drafting website content, coordinating media opportunities, running media narrative trainings, writing media grants and designing video content.
Please contact Abbie Plouff (abbie....@gmail.com) to join the Communications group.
Funding
The Funding Working Group is charged with building the resources needed to support the Summer of Solutions. Working with the Funding group is an opportunity to build and practice life-long skills that are great for a resume while creating the financial base GA needs to thrive. Opportunities within the group include grant writing/editing, planning a grassroots and entreprenurial funding strategy, forging donor relationships, defining the GA fundraising philosophy, designing fundraising events, creating "pitch" videos, and training other SoS members on how to do all of that.
Please contact Timothy DenHerder Thomas (timot...@gmail.com) to join the Funding group.

I hope you'll consider joining a group. Remember - you can participate at whatever level is comfortable for you, doing what you want to do and getting valuable experience that we hope can turn into your career someday. What is there to lose?

Thank you,
Matt Kazinka
