[Iowa City Summer of Solutions]

Last night we did some of the final prep for the Conference which is this Saturday! 

Please, everyone read the entire email. Sign up for a job if you don’t have one or if you want one, complete the job you’re assigned if you have, and get excited! Only a few days of focused effort, and then we can take a deep breath!

 

note: Freak out Party: Friday Night @ Sheila’s House at 8 pm.  All resources (folders, name tags, posters, etc.) need to ready then. We’ll compile our resources, make handouts and eat some good food.

 

CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

·         9am show up/set up (especially if you have a morning role!)

·         Service and Religion - 10 AM - 11:30 AM

·         Food and Agriculture - 12:30 PM - 2 PM

·         Business and Commerce - 2 PM - 3:30 PM

We would love for everyone to participate, and every role is important, so we need people to sign up for shifts (you can do more than one)!  If you would like a specific role let me know (email, phone 319-331-5003) and we’ll make sure everything works out.  If it’s already full, please come anyways as a greeter!

[Iowa City Summer of Solutions]

Hello one and all.  Last night we had a brief meeting, thanks to those of you who could attend.  We went over the final projects for the summer.  Please read about them below!

CONFERENCE
We need to make FOLLOW UP PACKETS for the conference so: THIS Thursday afternoon (7/22), Java House downtown at 4:30 pm, we will be making packets.  If you are making something for the packet  it needs to be there, printed and ready (look for your name below)!

Tasks!
NOTE TAKERS (Daria, M. Shultz, M. Kearney, Noelle):  Condensed and organized notes from the google doc, sent to Margaret Shultz ASAP!

Margaret Shultz  Print off Business Cards(just like last time-green if you can!)   AND   Condensed notes with overall conclusions from each conference meeting (1 page if you can!)

Friday Night Concert Series- THIS FRIDAY!  We will have fun and hand out some info about who we are!  A good time to get some more people to take the survey.

FUTURE OF SUMMER OF SOLUTIONS
We need to make sure this project continues in the future, and that we use the information from the conference to inform future projects.
-Gain members from U of I, City High [those of you who attend these institutions, we're putting our faith in you!]
-Make website more attractive (any volunteers?  Sorry Zach, but it's ugly)

Ideas for future projects:

3/50 project
Business School at U of I: green businesses program
Pedal Project
IC Sustainability Plan (put pressure on the city!)
One hands on project, one campaign
Low income foods?
Fluorescent light bulb disposal?
Volunteer-be a presence in the community (garlic mustard pulls, creek clean-ups, etc.)
