Hey Margaret,

Thanks for getting back to me. I know Lena has been in touch with Matt and seems pretty excited about it, plus we'd be able to get her a ride at least there, almost definitely back.

I think what would be best is if you could either put together a presentation with pictures and some facts (we engaged X number of people, we did these projects, etc) and write out what you want someone to say over it. Google Presentations (it's just an option under google docs) would probably be the best since the formatting definitely won't get messed up. Alternatively, if anyone from your program could Skype in, we kind of imagined this as a time when people would get to hear about each other's projects too, so that would be the absolute best.

Ruby,

Not sure if anyone's emailed you already, but I don't think anyone from Iowa City is going to be able to come to the August Gathering.  I have work Sunday afternoons, but I would love it if we could still be represented in some way.  Would it be feasible for us to write something up to send for someone who's present to read?  I really wish I could come, and am super bummed that I am not.  The existence of a need for money in America is continually putting a damper on my summer.

Let me know about sending a written something or other for the 15th,

Margaret

Hi Grand Aspirations friends,

I just finished the second draft of the agenda for the Grand Aspirations August Gathering. There's a summary/table of contents at the top and then more description of the events below. While there may be a few more changes, this is roughly the final version of the agenda. Please take a look! Feel free to send me any feedback you have.

IF YOU ARE NOT SURE IF YOU ARE ATTENDING THE AUGUST GATHERING: It's going to be awesome. Seriously. There is this huge, amazing outpouring of community support for this program and this gathering. Our coordinators on the ground in Fayetteville are getting calls from people they've never met asking to donate food, space, transportation within the city, and asking to hear our story. This is a fantastic opportunity. I am so incredibly excited about this event. I'm worried that we won't be able to deliver on what the Fayetteville community is hoping for from us: they want to hear ALL of our stories, from all our different programs.

Right now, we only have two Summer of Solutions programs from outside Fayetteville sending folks. If you are on the fence, please get in touch with me about what's stopping you from coming -- I want to help you get to Fayetteville. If you're concerned about money, we can talk about ways that the organization can support you to get to the Gathering. If you aren't sure this will be a good use of your time, I am confident in saying that it will be. If you can only come part of the time, we can work around that. If there's some other issue you want to raise, again, please get in touch with me.

If you come down on the attending side of the fence, please register here.

IF YOU ARE NOT ATTENDING THE AUGUST GATHERING: While we really want to get people physically there, we are figuring out ways to get involvement through technology. We have scheduled in some time when programs who aren't able to send a physical representative can call or Skype (video conference) in. Particularly of interest is the Growing the Green Economy event on Sunday, 8/15, from 2:30-5pm CST. This will be a public event that everyone who lives in Fayetteville is welcome to attend. We have already gotten some serious media interest around this event -- the mayor is possibly coming! We have set aside 3:30-4:40 CST for programs to give brief (5 minute) presentations on what they did this past summer. If this is something your program would be interested in doing, regardless of physical presence, PLEASE RSVP to me letting me know you will be presenting. We want to get as many programs there, physically or digitally, as we possibly can.

That's the main time we want people to focus on getting to, but if you are interested in Skyping into any other sessions, please email me back and let me know! We would LOVE to have you for as much time as we can. Since we haven't decided on all our locations yet, letting us know SOONER will allow us to plan to be near technology when people want to Skype in.

IF YOU ARE ATTENDING THE AUGUST GATHERING: That is so awesome! Please look at the agenda to get a sense of what we will be doing. Let Sarah Plavcan know how and when you will be getting into and leaving Fayetteville. Feel free to ask me any questions that you have. Get in touch with other people in your program about coming. If you haven't registered yet, please get on that!

I look forward to seeing or communicating otherwise with you in the near future!

Howdy! When exactly in august is the gathering?I kind of doubt I will be able to make it, but it's possible. Are you going, Margaret? Also, even if I can't go I would be happy to help out with anything from here (I can help with the presentation or write something).

Are we still doing anything as Iowa City SOS because I will be around to pass out more surveys if that's wanted. Are we still having a gallery? By the way, I am teaching at church this sunday and that would be a good time to do the art project. I know this is way way in advance, but I would definitely be interested in helping to plan for next year if  I can.

Thanks guys!
Eleanor
