Hello,

during the past years, many of us have amassed thousands of images on
the hard disk and have published some of them on the web using gallery.

I started using picasa lately and find it great for managing offline
fotos, adn preparing the albums to publish online with their tags!
lovely, however, once published on gallery online, these images are
viewed by relatives and friends and are commented there. and the
comments stay online until the server is hacked or the data is lost
after 5 years, 10 years or maybe later.

my suggestion is to make picasa (and other programs?) not only export
to gallery but also synchronize with gallery so that the
authorizations, votes, albums, comments are synchornized
bidirectionally online and offline.

keeping 2 separate photo albums offline/online is extremely time
consuming one day, people keeping a family website with gallery will be
overwhelmed by the maintenance effort it requires.

another suggestion is to offer an autopatching/autoupdating script for
gallery, it could act like linux updates, on a weekly or monthly basis
the script should be able to download its security patches or newer
versions this would make gallery much more hackfree and the keeping the
script uptodate much easier.

:)
Google summer of code is a great opportunity to do this now! picasa
synchronisation and the autoupdating script is a nice feature i think.
