The audio for the Central USA pass of SO-67 on
21Nov2009 at 1604z is on my webserver:

http://www.papays.com/SO-67_21Nov2009_160547z.mp3

Lots of competition on this 8 degree (from this qth) pass .
The three second tail timer was doing it's job. Some
tried to get their response to a call into that three second
window by talking fast. It did work for some. There was
also probably some carriers that did not have the proper PL
tone and that was having an impact as well.

There certainly was no lack of interest in working this bird!

The western pass is not visible here so I hope that someone else
will record that one.

With all do respect to those who made this satellite happen.......its
a very strong signal and easy sat to receive. I do understand the
dropout 3 second timer problem thats been explained but out of my past
12 years of satellite use i have used about all ssb,and fm sats up
there and this has to be the worst and most comlicated to just get a
complete contact through. Not one satellite these past 12 years has
such a problem as this one does with this 3 second dropout problem.
This problem should be fixed if it can be or change it to where this
dropout 3 second timer no longer effects communications. If it wasnt
for that one thing, this would be the strongest and most easily used
sat up there but do to that problem its to much of a pain when you
only get half the communication and then have to start all over to get
the other half through to the person to complete the contact. This
problem needs resolved

Hi Dean

The problem with the 3 second drop-out is a bug in the firmware and the satellite was not designed to operate like that. The 3 second tail was a late addition to the functionality to actually prevent the signal from falling out due to the spin of the satellite etc and the logic got a bit mixed-up. Somehow we did not pick it up with all the pre-flight tests.

We are investigating possible solutions to try and fix the problem.

If you reload the TLE in Orbitron you should see Sumbandila . It was is "new" but  I believe it is now in "Amateur" section
