I installed Sophos XG about 3 weeks back. Until last Thursday I had no problems with the device. I haven't had a chance to dive in and tweak it to better protect my home network but that is for a different discussion. Right now my problem is the inability to use Netflix. It started Thursday night and I just assumed it was the internet or Netflix having issues so I just went to bed. Friday it was giving me the same error. It will login to Netflix (on any of my tv's, xboxes, blu-ray players, ect) with no issues but when you click play it says it can not play this title right now. If I plug in my cheep Belkin router everything works great.

Please remember I am new to the sophos interface and am still learning. Is there a way I can exclude netflix traffic from any sort of filtering?? I usually consider my self pretty good with technology but the way sophos is setup I can't find the correct place to put an exclusion.

I put the netflix rule at the top, so that it triggered before the general rule. Web log shows direct hits to IPs rather than domains, I wonder if things are different because I'm in Canada? I know Netflix has different content for each country, but I'm not sure how their network infrastructure plays out to assist that. Here's a screenshot of the web log for the Roku device (works if I turn off web filtering, of course):

I noticed that the /24 shown above (209.148.214.0/24) is owned by my ISP (Rogers, one of the big three in Canada) - I added that IP range to the netflix rule and things are now working. It appears my ISP is playing a little DNS magic with connections to Netflix.

For the last several months, my video quality while streaming Netflix on both my appletv4K and the native app of my LG tv has been dwindling. Rarely hitting 4K for more than a minute. The video even buffers at times. This issue does not happen with other service providers such as AppleTV+ or Amazon Prime Video.

I have internet at 120GB and all my set up is hooked by Ethernet cable. When doing speed tests it shows 120GB+ as expected. I have tried factory resetting both my router and my Apple TV, reinstalling the Netflix app, nothing will fix it.

The fact that your modem is NOT in bridge mode, also means you are in double NAT, which can cause issues. The Modem has the External WAN IP. But then your google WiFi router gets an internal 192.168.x.x IP, which then in turn also has it's own DHCP which it provides to your devices. If that DHCP is also on same segment as that DHCP provided by Fuzz modem, it can cause all sorts of conflicts.

Having a double NAT will definitively cause problems. If you are using your own router (Google Wi-Fi router) to broadcast your wifi signal, Fizz's modem-router need to be set in bridge mode so it won't create its own wifi signal.

Test the speed (one time with and one time without Adaptative QOS) to see if its working properly. On or off, it shouldn't make a huge difference, especially if there is not many devices on your network using heavily Internet.

If the problem continues, you can contact Fizz customer service by opening this link: -issues and simply scroll down until you see the green bubble, then click on it to start your chat session with Fizz customer service.

When you do a speed test, try using and see if you can hit your 120Mbps. fast.com is actually powered by netflix, so it should be more representative of netflix speeds (since it will at least use the same routing). I just tried it on mine and I get a steady 120Mbps to 130Mbps and I also have the 120Mbps package wired.

Like Emporium said, if you are using your own router, be sure to put Fizz's Modem-Router in Bridge Mode if you haven't done it already. You can find instruction for this here: -can-i-use-my-own-wi-fi-router-fizz

Also, if you do use your own router, you might wanna check if some kind of Adaptative QOS option is enabled. Depending on how many devices are connected to your router, disabling Adaptative QOS might help with your problem, or not!

@Agima @Emporium I switched off the WMM (QOS) in the Fizz Modem and Router settings. And tried connecting my appleTV using the Fixz Wi-Fi instead of the Ethernet cable and it seems to have solved the drop in quality issue on Netflix which is great. However when I run a speed test my speed is around 20mbs as opposed to 120mbs. It seems sufficient to run the stream properly though.

The Wi-Fi I use in my home is usually the one that the Google Wi-Fi Router generates (hooked to the Fizz modem via Ethernet). If I use that network on my AppleTV, the Netflix stream will drop as usual.

@Agima @Emporium thanks for Your responses again. So I put the modem in bridge mode this morning and it seems like none of my Ethernet ports are outputting an internet connection. Whether I connect my router or my AppleTV, no external device is getting a connection. Please see below a picture of my ports (the white cable is the google router).

With exception of the Ethernet port/cable (#4) that goes to my TV, non of the ports are indicating a green light. In the case of my tv, I do get internet, but it is super slow, barely loads a video on YouTube. I recall this had been an issue back when I had put it into bridge mode initially and support had not been able to help me. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.

In Bridge mode, you effectively REMOVE all routing from the Fizz modem. Bridge mode is designed to hand over routing functions to another router (like your google router). So the only think the Fizz modem will do at that point, is provide the WANIP to the FIRST port connected to the modem. That's it. The rest of the ports will NO longer provide any communication. The modem becomes effectively JUST a modem, no routing.

This effectively gives YOUR router the WAN IP, and therefore there is no double NEtwork translation from LAN/WAN twice. Your router does the NAT, and essentially communicates to the outside world. The Fizz modem becomes essentially just a dumb modem.

@Agima thank you for your answer! I followed the steps, everything works, the only issue was due to the fact that some ports were deactivated in BM. Now, in bridge mode i get the signal through that one port to my router and internet is at 120mbs. So a I bought an Ethernet Switch/splitter to get additional ports that I hooked to my router and now everything is connected properly. Thank you very much for all your help. All the best.

in the next few weeks I'm going to buy a TV and a new PC. I don't have Satellite or Cable TV so I'm using services like Netflix, Hulu.. In the moment I'm watching everything on my laptop, but after I buy a TV I want to watch this online streaming services also on my new TV. Here is a list of features I want for my new PC/TV setup:

The important thing is that I want that 2 users can use the PC and TV at the same time, but doing different things.
Example: User 1 is on facebook on the TV while User 2 is writing something in Libreoffice on the PC.

1. Buy a SmartTV which has native apps for Netflix, Youtube, and a web browser. I saw that I can also stream movies from my PC to a SmartTV.
Questions about this option: How good are this native apps? How good is the web browser in smart TVs. Does it support flash? If some has a SmartTV and is using features like netflix, please give me some feedback. Thanks.

2. Connect the TV with a HDMI cable to my PC. Setup a VM, and run it in full screen mode on the TV. Set the options in VirtualBox so that it captures only actions from one mose and one keyboard, while the other mouse and keyboard are used in the native OS (like described in this link).
Question about this option: Are there performance issues while playing HD movies in the Virtual machine? How good is the setup described in the link above (if some one is using it, please give some feedback, Thanks)?

3. Setup multiseat with TV connected as the second monitor.
Questions: The new PC will have a i5 (maybe i7). Can I setup multiseat so that I connect one monitor to use the i5 graphics while connecting the TV to a PCIexpress graphic card, or do I need two graphic cards? I am using the awesome WM with no DE. I don't know how good a multiseat setup is working with the awesome WM. If some one has a multiseat setup while using awesome please give me some feedback about possible problems. Thanks.

Just plug your computer into the TV for the monitor. Then run mythtv to pick up TV through a TV tuner connected to the computer. It can be run on the TV connected through the computer at the same time. For everything else, there's ssh.

I am not quite sure I understand the setup you explained. For what would I need a TV turner if I only watch series and movies via the net, and from where should I ssh into my PC if I only have one PC? Please explain it a little more.

Multiseat...multiseat...I run awesome on my laptop's main panel, and do an extended desktop onto the external monitor. You need to find out what your external video will drive upto resolution wise. I think you can start a separate session on each monitor. If the resolutions differ too much, this would be recommended. If you are using two mice and two keyboards (most likely USB), X can probably do that.

My experience with smart tvs is that they don't have enough apps, the browser is terrible(also no flash, but one could call that less terribleness) and not enough codecs. And even if the apps were great you're still controlling it with a remote control(optional wireless keyboard). It feels like a smartphone with a remote control instead of a finger. I wouldn't use facebook on it. Also, they're not easily hackable

I've no experience with running two X servers and let them both work with different input hardware but I guess it's possible. I don't think it requires two GPUs to render two X sessions. Running multiple X sessions is quite normal I believe.
