How to Reset Samsung ML 1665 Printer Firmware

If you own a Samsung ML 1665 laser printer, you may encounter a problem where the red light on the printer is blinking or constantly on, indicating that the toner cartridge needs to be replaced. However, sometimes this is not the case and you still have toner left in the cartridge. This is because the toner cartridge has a memory chip that records the toner usage and prevents you from printing more pages than the manufacturer's limit. To solve this problem, you need to reset the printer firmware and bypass the chip's restriction. In this article, we will show you how to do that in a few simple steps.

Step 1: Find out the version of your printer firmware

The first thing you need to do is to find out the version of your printer firmware. This is important because you need to download the correct reset files for your version. There are two ways to check your printer firmware version:

    • By printing a configuration page: Press and hold down the print screen button on the printer (about 3 seconds) until you see the status light blink fast, stay solid and blink slowly. Now release the button and the configuration page will print that shows you the firmware version of your printer. The version number is in the format of vXX.XX.XX.XX, where XX are numbers. For example, v1.20.00.30.
    • By removing the right cover of your printer: Follow this video tutorial, from 0:35 to 1:15, to remove the right cover of your printer and locate the sticker with the firmware version on it.

Step 2: Download and extract the reset files

Once you know your printer firmware version, you need to download and extract the reset files for your version. You can find them on various websites by searching for "ml 1665 reset firmware" on Google or Bing. For example, if your printer firmware version is v1.20.00.30 (or v30 for short), you can download the reset files from [this link]. If your printer firmware version is v0.82.00.78 (or v82 for short), you can download the reset files from [this link]. Make sure you download the correct files for your version, otherwise it may not work or damage your printer.

After downloading the reset files, extract them to a folder on your computer. You should see two files inside: usbprn2.exe and ML-1660-XX.fls, where XX is your version number (e.g., ML-1660-30.fls for v30).

Step 3: Turn off printer and tape over the chip

The next step is to turn off your printer and take out the toner cartridge. You will see a chip on the right side of the toner cartridge that communicates with the printer. You need to cover this chip with a piece of tape to block its signal. Then return the toner cartridge back inside and turn on your printer.

    Step 4: Run usbprn2.exe and flash ML-1660-XX.fls

The final step is to run usbprn2.exe from the folder where you extracted the reset files. A command prompt window will open and ask you to press any key to continue. Press any key and wait for a few seconds until you see a message saying "Ready". Then drag and drop ML-1660-XX.fls file (the one that matches your version) onto usbprn2.exe window and press Enter.

The flashing process will begin and you will see some messages on the command prompt window. Do not turn off your printer or computer during this process. Wait until you see a message saying "Done" and then press any key to exit.

Step 5: Restart your printer and enjoy

Congratulations! You have successfully reset your Samsung ML 1665 printer firmware and bypassed the toner chip's restriction. Now you can restart your printer and print as many pages as you want with your existing toner cartridge. You may need to repeat this process every time you replace a new toner cartridge.
