sweet baby jesus... wait?  There was a failed reunion 12 years ago?  Can anyone comment on that?

There's detail later on in the article (I also love Bob's reaction to the new Husker recordings they're gonna release) -- they got together and rehearsed for the 20th anniversary and weren't feeling it, but this time around everything clicked.

It's just dropped in the article so nonchalantly. 😂

Did Bob not say at the time of the Copper Blue dates he did with J&J that he'd asked Dave and Malcolm first but it didn't work out?

Yes, I believe it was Malcolm that could not tour due to work.

"I just want to see if people are still interested." (End of the article) definitely implies more shows... I mean, interest has crashed the website... sooooo... fingers crossed.

(Also, nice that "Sugarlist" proves keeping the name was the right approach ;) )

I was wondering about that...Let's just say that this publication has had issues with accuracy in the past.

This is all just so crazy. This list was one of my first forays into the internet. Imagine how damn long ago that was. And now this. So damn exciting.

LAST WEEK:
"Geez, man, I dunno about getting to LA or Seattle for US World Cup
games, budget's really nebulous right now, better to put it away for the
women in '27"

THIS WEEK:
"IF I GET TICKETS WE'RE GOING I DON'T CARE"

Same. This time there's no Tower Records employee to make fun of my
accent when buying tix.

So true, I've been lurking since...1994? Subscribed on the email I got at my first job!!  Amazing that it's still going. Planning to get tickets for NYC in case a Boston show isn't added later.

I had no idea that Bob tried to get the band together back in 2011. I knew that the band coming to an end (a 'permanent hiatus' if I remember the wording correctly) was amicable but would never have expected a reunion.

I don't think I've been this excited about anything musically since the Besides album release...

I guess I'll be the grump here. Bob already did a Copper Blue tour in 2012 - which was fantastic - so his going back to that well again isn't that exciting to me. Sure, it's nice to have Sugar back together, but how many people have really been clamoring for a reunion? Sugar was only sort of a band to begin with and I'd be hard pressed to say that their live show is going to be any better than Bob/Jason/Jon. Mostly it just seems like a very un-Bob thing to do. I wonder if he feels like working with Jason and Jon has run its course after 15 years or so.

Sumant:

I get the feeling - Sugar 2025 isn't going to be much different than Bob 2025. Even the new song sounds like it could fit on any of the post 2012 albums.

But the most exciting thing to me is just what you said - the "un-Bob"-ness of it. Many of us - at least I know I have - have been hoping Bob would mix up his set list and add some deeper cuts. This could at least be the start of that in future solo and band shows. I'll probably never get The Hanging Tree live again, but I might be able to hear Can't Help You Anymore or Tilted one more time.

I think the ticket demand is gonna be nuts. Good luck to all who are gonna try!

I'm most excited to hear David's songs again, I think if I did a personal top 10 Sugar songs list it would be an even split.

Sumant,

I wonder if that 2012 Copper Blue tour was really supposed to be a Sugar reunion tour, that just didn't work out.

If they make new music, and play Sugar songs that haven't been played in a long while, I will be down with it.

Yeah, David confirms that in the Spin article as originally linked by Gaz Evans yesterday.

My thoughts on the un-Bobness is that it’s only un-Bob if it’s a nostalgia tour only.

I think the comments at the end of the Rolling Stone piece may be non-commital but the sentence “All three of us ..”  is also suggestive that a new record is very much in their thoughts:

“I don’t want to get out too far in front of the skis, as they say,” he says. “People’s reactions will probably guide a lot of the possibilities in front of us, whether it’s more songs or more shows. All three of us are all in for whatever feels right. I just want to see if people are still interested.”

The lack of new songs in recent shows also suggests songs are potentially being kept back for new Sugar. It’ll be interesting to see if HODM gets played on the solo UK dates next month.

The extremely short run of European dates could also be seen as not wanting to queer the pitch for Sugar European shows in the second half of ‘26, possibly after some summer festival dates.

Re the possible 2012 reunion, it’s interesting that Bob is quoted as saying he thought that none of them were feeling it in rehearsal yet Dave and Malcolm both quote scheduling as the reason for it not going ahead.

Well this 90s era Sugarlist lurker is also pretty excited by all this.  I hope we all get free tickets as a reward for our devotion. I also hope the number of "play in my town/country" reaction posts gets their attention - especially the NZ/Australia ones, since we never got no Sugar the first time!

The song ... I like it fine, but I too initially thought "this coulda been on any 2012- Bob Mould band record' ... until .... Malcolm. That snare, those hats... *that's* Sugar!

I kind of get all those points, but it's easy to forget how massive (in Bob terms) Sugar were at their peak. I suspect this announcement will have caught the attention of a lot of people who haven't followed Bob's every move for the last 30 years and who probably had no idea he had toured Copper Blue in 2012.
