I don't begrudge Bob and David the money -- far from it -- but those ticket prices? Ouch. I didn't even pay that much for the Pixies + opener (both full bands) this year. And a $13 "fee"?

Yes, it’s a sad state of affairs trying to see shows in the US at some venues. I have no idea why the price for this show is so high. Old Town School of Folk Music is a great place but their prices always seem very high.

My wife and I just saw Bob in Kalamazoo on Sunday. Two tickets with all taxes and fees were $64.28 total for both. Very reasonable in this day and age. Plus the Bell’s beer was $5/pint so that was a bonus :)

Two tickets for Ministry, Nitzer Ebb and Die Krupps at The Riviera Theater in Chicago this past Friday were $358 in the GA main floor. Pints were $14.

Now that we’re living in Michigan we try to see our favorite artists in smaller cities and towns when possible. We will still go to the occasional show in Chicago or Detroit but know we’re going to pay for it.

Not sure if anyone already pointed this out, but Bob will be back to Chicago in October, with David Barbe.

Meh.

Eggs cost 9 bucks.

Musicians need to eat.

Venues have crazy overhead.

Depends. Corporate venues are definitely gouging. I do go to a lot of small venues where shows are $15 - $20 and beers are $7 (in San Francisco no less) - but then there is a class of "boutique" venues that do have high ticket prices and tend to have crazy overhead. That Chicago venue looks to be the latter. I think the tickets were expensive when I saw Bob at Freight and Salvage a few years ago.  I do think ticket fees - in general, are bogus.

I live in the People's Republic of Los Angeles and I've never paid that much for eggs!

I've adjusted my expectations over the last few years on how much I'll need to pay for entertainment, but cost definitely influences if I think it's going to be worth catching a show or not these days - Over $50 makes me think twice and under $25 (rare those they may be) are no brainers.  And while my advancing years and waning taste for staying out "late" is a factor, I've seen more shows accompanying my teenagers the last couple years than to see someone just for me.

Bob shows in town are generally on the cusp - and rabid as a fan as I was over the years, I don't love the solo electric format and the current release hasn't quite grabbed me.

It's a constant frustration. Some artists and venues get it right, some don't. There are shows that sell out in the presale (Graham Nash at the Barns of Wolftrap come to mind – 3-day run, zero chance of getting a ticket) and there are shows that are half filled because they refuse to come down from arrogant pricing. The only thing we can do is be sensible. I've passed on plenty of shows due to cost and you should too.
