I’m tangential friends with Jefferson Hart (no relation), whose band Secret Monkey Weekend just released this song on Bandcamp. I think in mentioned this previously, but it was just recorded. Here Jeff’s FB post;

GRANT HART: We were so busy with our Winston-Salem release party preparations that we did not properly get the word out that Ella's song "Grant Hart (Morning Star) was released Friday as a stand-alone non-album digital single. It's only on Bandcamp. Have a listen.

"Grant Hart (Morning Star) is Ella's recollection of her childhood friendship with Hüsker Dü's Grant Hart from the time she was 7 until his death in '17). Her dad Matt Brown drummed with him a couple of years and he used to stay at the Brown home when playing nearby."

Let Rosemary rock the baby, please Laura-Louise
Underneath the apple tree with poison at your knees

At the airport in your red shoes and your paper bag

See you in the morning star, just below the moon
You and Dad, the times we had, fell away too soon

I woke up and I got dressed and found the things you sent
45s and Valentines and candy cigarettes

Lincoln games and bamboo frames
A tent in our backyard

See you in the morning star, just below the moon
You and Dad, the times we had, fell away too soon

I — was along for the ride
To the record store with an armload of Nova Mob and 45s

Harper crying, children hiding underneath the tree
Tried to wash away the poison, Grant said there’s no need
Never thought of you as anyone but my dear friend

See you in the morning star just below the moon
You and Dad, the times we had, they fell away too soon

released June 13, 2025

Ella Brown Hart - bass and backing vocals
Lila Brown Hart - drums and backing vocals
Jefferson Hart - guitar and vocals

We're not sure who took this photo. Maybe Kathryn Wall. I took some, too, so it was in my photos file.
