Vaishnavi is an Indian actress, theatre actor and voice artist.[2] She was a prominent lead actress from 1988 to 1997 in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films.[3] She is the granddaughter of actress Sowcar Janaki.[1]
Vaishnavi's mother Yagnna Prabha is the elder daughter of Sowcar Janaki. In 1996, she married cinematographer Aravind Kamalanathan who worked in her debut film, after which she stopped acting. They have two daughters, Aditi and Meghna.[3]
Vaishnavi started her film career with Thalaivanukkor Thalaivi in 1987.[3] She has also done 100 shows of a drama, called "Lakshmi Kalyana Vaibhovame"' in 1993, touring US, Thailand, Sri Lanka, London and Paris.
Vaishnavi apparently committed suicide at the age of 20, at her residence in Chennai on 17 April 2006. On 19 April 2006, Dev Anand (serial actor) was arrested for allegedly abetting Vaishnavi's death. Vaishnavi's parents and her younger sister had been to her grandfather's house to celebrate his birthday, when she was alone at home and hanged herself. Serial actor Dev Anand accused of instigating her to commit suicide.[1][2]
Terrific actor headshots must have three qualities. They should accurately show what you look like on a great day. They should capture a unique and interesting aspect of your personality. And they should be engaging, creative and original photographs.
Television actor Vaishnavi Dhanraj on Friday accused her close family members of abusing and assaulting her. Dhanraj, who has acted in the TV show CID among others, also posted a video on social media, showing her injuries.
After she lodged a complaint with Kashimira police station in Thane district, police registered a non-cognisable case against her mother and brother, an official said. In a non-cognisable case, police can not initiate an investigation or make an arrest unless there is a court order to that effect.
On Friday, a video of the actor emerged on social media platforms. In the clip, she showed her bruises. She said, "Hi. This is Vaishnavi Dhanraj. I'm talking through Himanshu Shukla. I really need help right now. I'm in Kashimira police station. I have been abused by my family. I've been hit really badly (showed her bruises). Please I need everybody's help right from media, and news channels to everybody in the industry. Please come and help me."
Vaishnavi started her acting career in 2008 with a cameo in Kasautii Zindagii Kay followed by Karam Apnaa Apnaa in the same year. In 2009, Vaishnavi joined CID and the featured in Na Aana Is Des Laado. After a brief hiatus following her marriage, she returned with Parvarrish-Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi in 2013.
She was next seen in Madhubala-Ek Ishq Ek Junoon. In 2015, she gained popularity by playing Maya Mithlesh Thakur in Begusarai. Fans also saw her in Mahabharat, Kitchen Champion 4, India's Got Talent, Crime Patrol, Hum Ne Li Hai- Shapath, and Fear Files.
Vaishnavi was last seen playing the role of Mahi Arora in Bepannaah. She tied the knot with Nitin Sahrawat in December 2012. They filed for legal separation in July 2015 and were divorced in January 2016.
Eventually, she had a toxic relationship with her ex-husband actor and model Nitin Sherawat. She married him on 23rd December, 2023 after a year of courtship that lasted for four years. She divorced him on account of domestic violence.
In an interview with Spotboye, she said, "He wouldn't have killed me, probably, but I got so scared that I ran away from the house. He had beaten me so badly that my leg was bleeding. That was my last day as his wife - emotionally, physically and mentally. I eventually got a divorce."
In another interview, she said, "When all other attempts failed, I chose to take a drastic step and file for divorce as a last resort. The primary reason was domestic violence. While we could have tried to resolve our issues, the physical abuse became a significant factor leading us to go our separate way."
Radhabai, the cook in the Nadkarni household, is a classic representative of her ilk. Having come from abject poverty, she knows her welfare depends on the goodwill of her employers, and that she must play her cards carefully if she is to stay in their good auspices. As is true of most of the characters in Wedding Album, nothing is quite as it seems with Radhabai. There is a side to her that is hidden and she harbors a great burden in the form of a tragic secret she dare not disclose.
On a personal level, this has been a wonderful journey for me. From my director, Sindu Singh, I am learning what constitutes good theater and what goes into getting truly under the skin of a character. And I love this rambunctious cast. Every one of my co-actors comes a little unhinged when faced with a funny line or situation and rehearsals are filled with uproarious laughter. You will see some of that great chemistry on stage when you come see Wedding Album!
It has been hectic for Vaishnavi the last few days. She has been shooting continuously and the previous day's dubbing had stretched till two in the morning. Still, she was on the sets at eight in the morning. Excerpts from an interview held recently with indiantelevision.com's Harish Patil:
Who are your favourite directors?
I like Mani Rathnam and Sanjay Leela Bhansali for their sensitivity in handling the subject. On television, among my favourites is Ravi Rai for the way he handles emotional scenes. Anurag Bose is another of my favourites. I like the way he handles drama and perfect characterisation.
Do you follow any particular acting pattern?
I don't follow any particular school of acting. I have not taken any formal lessons in acting. If the character is close to my nature, it is easy for me to play that. But sometimes, it so happens that you just can't understand the character. You don't get the soul, in which case it is very difficult to do justice to that character. And whenever it happens, it puts me off. I compare acting with singing. Each Avatar (character) is like a raga, there are different sur (tune) to play different characters. If you can't find that sur, the singing is useless.
Do you believe in living the role?
Not to a great extent. Whenever I am on the set, I feel like I am playing that character. It is the case with strong characters like Sharda, especially when I shoot continuously. I feel that impact even when I leave the set. Normally I don't read the script before going to the set. But in the case of Choti Maa, I read the whole story beforehand, which helped me understand the character.
Who are your favourite actors?
Renuka Shahane, Sachin Khedekar and Pallavi Joshi are my favourites because of their natural and intense performances. I also liked Shefali Chhaya in Hasratein.
How do you spend your leisure time?
Reading is my passion. I read anything that gives knowledge. There is no specific genre that I go for but I am interested in philosophy and spiritualism. I like religious books that deal with spiritual experiences
What are your plans for the future?
I will be pursuing acting as a full-time career for the next two years at least. I am simultaneously working on another project, which might make me give up acting after two years.
I may take up some acting assignments in between. Acting, I feel, is making me a self centred person. Everything is me, my, mine. I think we should also look at the people outside our periphery. There are so many people whom you can help to improve life. If you can do it, I feel one can really live his life.
So what is this plan of yours?
All I will say is that it will not be related to media. (In an interview three years ago, she had spoken of her involvement in church activities, related to slum development and literacy).
Vaishnavi Dhanraj released a video of herself talking about the scuffle and requested everyone to help. The actress also showed the bruises on her face, lips, and hands on the camera. Vaishnavi Dhanraj said that she had shot this video from the police station. "Namaste, I am Vaishnavi Dhanraj. I need help at this time. I am currently in Kashimira Police Station (Meera Road) police station and I have been assaulted by my family members. I have been beaten very badly. Please I need to help you all. The media, news channels, and all the people in the industry came and helped me," Vaishnavi Dhanraj said in the video.
Vaishnavi Dhanraj has also fallen victim to physical violence earlier. The actress had to face domestic violence at her wedding. Vaishnavi Dhanraj married actor Nitin Sherawat in 2016. In an interview with Spotboy, the actress revealed that she was a victim of domestic violence and so she divorced him later on. "He might not have killed me, but I was so scared that I ran away from the house. He had beaten me so badly that there was bleeding from my leg. Emotionally, physically, and mentally, it was my last day as a wife. I finally got divorced," Vaishnavi Dhanraj had said in the interview.
Vaishnavi was married to actor Nitin Sherawat in 2016. During an earlier interview, she had disclosed that she went through a divorce with Nitin due to recurring incidents of domestic violence. The actress shared that she had attempted to salvage their marriage by seeking professional help for Nitin, but unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful.Published By: Zinia BandyopadhyayPublished On: Dec 15, 2023Must Watch
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child might have picked up Best Play at both London's Olivier Awards and Broadway's Tony Awards, but JK Rowling's wizarding juggernaut has been beaten to all the biggest awards at this year's Helpmanns. In fact, Cursed Child only walked away with one award at the ceremony in Melbourne tonight.
The Helpmann Awards recognise the best live performance in Australia, and this year most of the major awards went to homegrown productions and homegrown plays. And as they should: our theatre artists are creating some extraordinary work at the moment that speak directly to where we are in the world. They mightn't always have the budgets or razzle dazzle of the Pottersphere, but they're every bit as important.
