This is Michel Patient, A.K.A. "Libby's Frenchman." When I was in France this summer, we met Michel at the show of our work at the centuries-old abbey in Saint Florent le Vieil. While the rest of our group was inside, Libby and I wandered out into the beautiful grounds, and ran into Michel. He and Libby were chatting like two old friends, leaning against the sun-warm rock face of the abbey, when I snapped this photo. I loved the disbelieving look on his face- I don't know what they were discussing at the time- countered by the look of the simple cross on the crusty Frenchman attesting to his faith.
