Now that we've had a bit of time to slow down from the excitement of Ruddigore, I'd like to invite you all to come to the contra dance I'm calling on Friday night. It takes place at the First Parish Church (the white church with the tall steeple, near Hancock Church, where the Labyrinth Choir performed last week) , Lexington, at 7 Harrington Road, facing the Lexington green.
It begins at 8:00 pm, with basic instruction at 7:45 pm. All are welcome including singles, families and beginners.
Admission is $7, teens $5, 12 and under free; or $20 per family. Children are always welcome at our dances, as they have generally been well behaved. Parents are responsible for their behavior and safety.
The Sexton requests we keep the floors clean, so we request that dancers should wear only clean shoes in the Parish Hall to protect the wood floor. Please bring clean soft soled shoes that don't stick to the floor for your dancing pleasure, or make sure the bottoms of your shoes are clean before dancing. I encourage you to wear loose, light weight, comfortable clothing, as it's easy to get warm while dancing.
The band, Roaring Jelly, includes both Joyce Isen and Carol Kycia, who were in the pit for Ruddigore. Roaring Jelly is the only large (usually 20-25 musicians) band in the area, and possibly the country, so it befits those of us who perform Gilbert and Sullivan on a
grand scale.
And, to continue our other tradition, refreshments are always available at the break.
I hope to see you there!
Best to you all,
Susan
