ANALYST, PERFORMANCE & CAPACITY, J1007-0638 Permanent

Location: Toronto or Sault Ste Marie

Position Summary:

Overall responsibility of the team is to manage the end-to-end performance,
capacity, and forecasting of the Operations infrastructure (Servers,
Storage, Database, Network, Applications) assuring that adequate resources
are available for current and future service level requirements.

This individual will be responsible for ensuring infrastructure components
are utilized in an efficient and cost effective manner; planning for
capacity as required by current and planned applications and projects;
ensuring performance and capacity meets both internal and external service
requirements; implementation of performance and capacity policy, process and
automation; provide reporting on performance and capacity statistics;
defining, negotiating and setting requirements for Performance testing of
applications and systems infrastructure; primary point of contact for
investigation of performance related issues; recommend as to how
applications can utilize physical and logical resources efficiently and
effectively. This department will play a leadership role in the application
of Performance and Capacity best practices within IT.

Major Responsibility Areas

. Performance and capacity data collection, analysis and reporting for the
complete infrastructure. Design and execution of benchmarks to determine,
quantify and improve application and server performance. Identify areas of
opportunity for improvements and avoidance of potential problems.

. Implement and management of performance and capacity solutions to monitor
and collect data from the infrastructure. Monitor and maintain performance
and capacity for all infrastructure components. Including the planning and
forecasting for performance and capacity of systems to meet current and
future needs.

. Primary point of contact for performance related problems.

. Review, approve and implement changes that pertain to performance and
capacity. Provisioning of capacity as required.

. Review of performance of test environments (application and systems) to
ensure that Production systems are adequately sized.

. Participate in the creation and maintenance of performance and capacity
processes and procedures.

. Participate in the implementation of new solutions (computing hardware,
software and environments), enhancements and maintenance releases by working
with the solutions delivery and peer operation teams coordinating P&C
oriented tasks/projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a minimum education level of a University Degree,
College Diploma or equivalent, with a minimum 10 years progressive
experience in information technology. Expert knowledge in following
specialties is required; operating systems for large networked computing
environments (i.e. AIX, Win2K, OpenVMS, Tru64 Unix); storage solutions (i.e.
SAN, tape); network protocols (i.e. TCP/IP, Pathworks, DECnet, Internet);
distributed computing client/server applications and environments.
Proficiency with office automation tools, presentation tools, network and
system performance tools is a must. Excellent written and oral
communications skills are required. Strong interpersonal skills combined
with the ability to effectively work with all levels of staff and
management. Good organizational and planning skills. Detail and results
oriented. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Proven ability to
work in a team environment is also required. This position will require
being on-call, and, on occasion, working outside of regular scheduled hours.
