Application Architect, J1007-1111

Location: Toronto or Sault Ste. Marie)
Position Summary:
Responsible for the development and communication of the client's
Application Architecture using best practice methods and a consistent set of
guiding principles. Recognized as the client's senior technical resource on
Application development tools, techniques, languages, methodologies and
packaged applications.
Major Responsibility Areas
Manage Technology Specialists that directly report to the Application
Architect. This includes work assignments, performance management and other
"H/R" processes.
Develop and maintain the client's application architecture in consultation
with other Architects. This includes introducing application architecture
concepts to the client's IT staff and business partners.
Provide application architecture consultation for all information technology
projects, solutions assessments and business cases.
Provide support to IT Solution Delivery and Integration group on application
related issues.
Stay current on new application development tools, techniques, languages,
methodologies and packaged applications.
Liaise with business units and corporate planning to ensure proper
application architecture is in place to meet corporate needs.
Fiduciary responsibility and accountability of all identified application
architectural initiatives.
Develop and maintain migration plans to address any gaps in the client's
application architecture.
Develop and maintain a communication plan to communicate the client's
application architecture "blueprint". Participate in Architecture Review
Board meetings.
Provide direction to domain teams on application technology issues,
standards and IT vision.
Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a minimum education level of a University Degree,
College Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of ten years experience in
Information Technology in a large to medium sized installation, including
seven years experience in design, development and implementation of large to
medium computer applications.
Knowledge of a variety of operating systems and client/server models for a
large network environment; in-depth knowledge of several programming
languages.
In-depth experience with on-line transaction processing systems and
client/server applications.
Extensive knowledge in object oriented analysis, design and coding.
Extensive knowledge in application development methodologies (e.g. UML,RUP);
sound experience in Corporate and IT processes such as strategic and
tactical planning, solution architecture and design and build.
Excellent interpersonal skills and innovation.
Strong organizational, written and oral communication (including
presentation) skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Ability to work well in a team environment and demonstrated facilitation
