Ruby on Rails (RoR) Developer, J0907-0717 Permanent

Location: Toronto

Our client has one of the largest Filemaker installations in North America,
which they have outgrown. The team is now starting down the development path
of a new Rails and MySQL based replacement web application. For 12 months
they have been running a Rails web application which has synchronized a
subset of the core internal database. They now need to rebuild the entire
database, comprising Event Scheduling, Contact and Sales management,
Inventory, Billing, and Ordering. The current Rails application has 120
models, whcih will give you an indication of the size of the application.

You will join an open, agile team structure that values results, input and
accountability. You will not be handed specfications and asked to code, you
will either be given user stories or sit down withusers to generate them,
produce code, and then sit down again with users signing off each feature
that was developed. A portion of your job will be maintenance of the
existing system as required.

Required skills:
- Data modelling and OO design knowledge and practice
- Working knowledge of MVC design patterns
- History of Rails-based applications
- History of application development in general
- Comfortable with source code control (subversion)
- Comfortable with basic web server configuration and deployment
- Strong SQL skillset

Desired Skills:
- Strong *nix command line skillset
- Working within high availability environments
- Comfortable with OS X
