Contract 5 months

Location: Toronto or Sault Ste. Marie

Position Summary:

Provide overall 24x7 administration and support for the client's Storage
Infrastructure Environments. This includes configuration, maintenance,
troubleshooting, performance tuning, documentation, DRP
design/implementation and upgrades of all Tape and Disk Storage Systems. The
role will also support, plan and implement new project requirements.

This role will be administering and supporting the current storage
environment which is based on a Brocade Storage Area Network and Storage
subsystems including IBM and HP disk platforms as well as SUN tape
libraries. SAN attached systems include IBM AIX, Windows, HP OpenVMS and
VMware systems. The SAN Tape backup environment is based on Symantec/Veritas
Netbackup software. Future storage infrastructure may include disk based
archiving, data replication, virtual storage and Continuous Data Protection
technologies.

Major Responsibility Areas

. Oversee and provide tier 2 support for all aspects of the Enterprise
Storage Environment.
. Participate in the design and support of the Enterprise Backup
Environment.
. Provisioning of available storage resources (incl. disk, tape etc.) to
various client groups in order to meet requirements.
. Perform 24-hour production monitoring, support, problem resolution and
change management for the corporation's databases.
. Review, approve, and implement changes that pertain to the supported
environments and follow defined company processes for making changes.
. Plan, setup, and implement monitoring systems for errors or performance
problems; troubleshoot major reported problems; perform trend analysis to
anticipate capacity problems.
. Act as a key point of contact and co-ordination for resolving storage
related problems.
. Planning for both short term and long term storage requirements.
. Develop thorough understanding of application trends so that requirements
can be anticipated and planned for.
. Identify and document opportunities to reduce costs and improve service to
clients.
. Maintaining a Storage Management Planning database that collects and
maintains metric history.
. Creation of regular reports based on key metrics that indicate utilization
levels of supported environments and expected future requirements.
. Participate in disaster recovery planning and if required execute the
disaster recovery plan; participate in the switchover exercise to the Sault
St. Marie data centre; maintain processes and procedures for switchover
. Maintain up-to-date and effective internal processes and documentation for
all key functions within the Team.
. Remain current on industry trends and directions.
. Provide input to technical architecture and storage management direction.
. Rotate being on-call; occasionally need to be in the office outside of
normal working hours; some travel in Ontario required.
. Develop and keep current a personal professional development plan

Minimum Qualifications:

. This position requires a minimum education level of a university degree or
college diploma in computer studies or equivalent experience.
. Requires three (3) to five (5) years experience in Storage Administration.
. Strong knowledge of storage management processes and disciplines
. Proficient to expert knowledge of Veritas Netbackup, Brocade SAN, IBM
DS8100 and HP EVA storage arrays.
. Extensive experience supporting a Netbackup environment including
experience with Netbackup Vault, Global Data Manager and Veritas clustering
under AIX.
. Expertise with IBM AIX and working knowledge of Windows, OpenVMS and Tru64
Operating systems
. Knowledge of IP and Fibre Channel networking
. Knowledge of data replication technologies
. Knowledge of Tape technologies and tape formats
. Ability to demonstrate strong leadership and self management skills
. Ability to adapt and resolve challenges under tight time constraints, work
pressure, and constant changes
. Results oriented, well organized, strong communication skills, and
attentive to details
. Experience and knowledge of ITIL processes would be an asset
