Let me take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and holy
Christmas and a peaceful and blessed new year.

Once again we find ourselves working and praying for peace in both
Sudan and South Sudan, as well as numerous other conflicts such as
Gaza, Ukraine, Myanmar, DRC, Thailand, Cambodia and elsewhere. At the
same time we mourn the victims of recent mass killings in the USA,
Australia, Nigeria and elsewhere, on top of the civilians murdered in
Al Fasher and other parts of Sudan. We also witness the growth of
authoritarian governance even in some traditionally democratic nations
in the Global North and the erosion of the rights of migrants,
refugees and asylum seekers from across the globe, including Sudan and
South Sudan.

Now more than ever we must advocate for active nonviolent resistance
to all of these conflicts and injustices. Violence is never the
solution. Even with the best of intentions, violence begets more
violence in a vicious spiral which needs to be definitively broken.
Nonviolence is not passive, it is active, organised, disciplined and
committed. It is multifaceted, and ultimately more effective and
sustainable than violence.

Peace
John
