Some Apple TV channels might have limits for how many titles can be downloaded simultaneously and the number of devices you can download content on. If you reach the limit, the Apple TV app alerts you. If you want to download more titles, delete TV episodes or movies that you already downloaded from one of your (or your family's) devices.

My friend is thinking of selling his Blu-ray collection and going exclusively digital, but are movies limited to streaming only, or can you purchase them from the Microsoft Store and download them to the internal storage? (He was thinking of buying an SSD expansion solely for movies, since money is no object and they're hot-swappable.)

I just bought Super Mario Bros on Blu-Ray and it came with a Movies Anywhere license. It says "download to watch anywhere." I'm on a Windows 11 machine, there isn't a Movies Anywhere app - and I'd rather load this into Plex with everything else I've got.

Movies Anywhere's website doesn't seem to let me download a copy of the actual video file. Do any of the services they integrate with (Vudu, Microsoft, YouTube/Google Play) let you download and keep the movie file yourself?

I'm a little confused. I'm trying to download movies I purchased from iTunes to my 4th gen AppleTV. Is there a way to do that, or does it do it automatically when you tell it to play? From what I understand Apple is utilizing an aggressive form data management for AppleTV, but does that mean you can't just store movies you want to keep on the hard drive? Also, is there a way to have quick access to movies you've purchased? Thanks!

Right, I know it is still streaming, but I was hoping that you could download a movie to the hard drive so it didn't have to buffer. I know the iTunes movie app is where my movies are, but it seems kind of complicated to have to search for my purchased content when they could just allow a shortcut to the home screen directly to purchased movies.

It is a streaming only device, again the storage is only for apps. If you are encountering buffering then that is due to your network. The alternative woild be to download to computer or IOS device and use AirPlay. There is a purchased tab right in the movies app, if you have a lot of content then you would need to search. and you can also use Siri.

Thanks for your help! I have an iPhone and MacBook Pro so I'll just download them on that. To be honest, it still seems silly that that function doesn't exist on the box itself, but it is what it is. I also think that Apple could have made it easier to access purchased movies. Like a favorites option. If someone wants to watch a movie everyday seems kind of odd to gave to search every single time. Of course, I can just use my other devices as I said before. I just think they could make it easier. As for network issues, the iTunes movies are the only things that buffer. My apps stream perfectly, and I play mmos on my Xbox and Playstation #firstworldproblems #reallynotabigdealtho

I have requested this feature as well. Everyone keeps saying "it's a streaming only device" as though something can't be changed. Our i-devices have this feature, and I'd love to see it on the ATV4 as well. 64GB is overkill on a device that can't download purchased content, even with a lot of games downloaded. We have a bunch of movies that get watched frequently, and I'd love to be able to download just those 3 or 4 movies to have handy for the kids. Plus, not everyone has super fast internet - this would help with keeping my network unclogged a bit.

Another example is 1080P HD content - my network sometimes has to re-buffer content that large. I would love to have certain purchased 1080P content downloaded instead of always having my ATV set to only watch 720P to avoid re-buffering issues.

You can accomplish that. Download the movie 1080 to iTunes and enable home sharing to access the file over your local network. I have a 3 tb external drive thats used when purchasing movies/music from iTunes (or any other provider). Then I can access via any of my ATVs (assuming they are on the same network). I play movies in the bedroom, music in the garage and cartoons in the livingroom all via home sharing. Though if you have network issues this solution would not work but this is a streaming device So you just need to troubleshoot the issue with your network. Not that you have to stream from the cloud rather that files are streamed to the device without storage. Just like its competitors that don't have onboard storage Roku, firetv Chromecast etc...

You should be downloading movies to your computer anyway to avoid potentially losing content that is removed from the store. As long as your local network operates well you should have no issue streaming to the ATV via home sharing. One of the biggest things that users confused with the 1st gen device was that it was a backup simply because it could store media, and there were many cases where content was lost due to not having a proper backup when the syncing computer was damaged.

This is the most ridiculous answer ever. Who would ever download 64g of apps? I was told it could download movies, hence I bought it for when I was out of wifi/network we could watch some movies. So now I need to shlep my macbook along with my appletv and hope there is wifi? so why do I even need the appleTV when I could just connect my macbook directly to the tv?

No kidding. Found this out as I'm setting it up for my mother for Christmas. This was the entire point of getting it for her as her internet service is spotty at best. The ability to download and watch offline was the sole selling feature. Deflated, and dejected as the centre-piece gift is going to make life more difficult for her when it was meant to streamline.

Trying to get a movie downloaded on the disney+ app, on android. It starts to download and then stops and says it will continue when wifi is available. Problem is its on wifi the entire time. It'll connect and disconnect a couple times but it doesn't download past a few percent. Seems to think its not on wifi even when it is. Also if notifications and sound are turned on the app keeps beeping notifications over and over again.

As you know, streaming is usually a better way to get free movies because there are simply a lot more free and legal movie streaming options out there vs movie download sites or services. Check out the streaming advice at the bottom of this page for more.

Streaming services like Netflix don't give you the video file to save wherever you want. You can only download the movie in their approved app, which helps them control further copying or burning to discs.

Go Into the Story is the official blog for The Blacklist, the screenwriting community famous for its annual top ten list of unproduced scripts. One helpful feature of Go Into the Story is its bank of downloadable movie scripts.

The titular Drew has been sharing scripts with curious readers and writers for almost two decades now and has a vast library from which to choose. A great benefit of Script-O-Rama is that it holds several drafts of certain movies, an invaluable resource for those who want to see how a Hollywood film evolves in the writing process.

You can stream movies, documentaries or TV series on most current mobile devices, your computer or smart TV, for free with your Library card. Find out how to get started with our video streaming services.

If you plan ahead, though, you can download some movies via Wi-Fi for offline viewing. (How many? According to Amazon, "Depending on your location, you can have a maximum of either 15 or 25 total Prime Video titles downloaded at a time across all devices associated with your Amazon account.") That way it won't matter if you have no service (like on an airplane), and it won't blast through your monthly data allotment.

The less I say about these movies, the better. I watched both knowing very little about their plots, and it was that very not-knowing that made them so engaging. I will say they're two very different movies, both very suspenseful and frequently surprising. Indeed, you can easily watch "10 Cloverfield Lane" without having seen "Cloverfield," because they're barely related. Or are they totally related? Aha... hmmm...

If you like your sci-fi dark, sexy and thinky, look no further than this 2015 Oscar-winner (for Best Visual Effects) and nominee (for Best Original Screenplay). It's a meditation on artificial intelligence, one that unfolds slowly and deliberately before building to a pretty incredible climax. Alicia Vikander does amazing work as the android Ava, but Oscar Isaac -- wow. I never got the fuss about him in the movies he's better-known for, but here he's amazing: mysterious, menacing, brilliant and frequently a total jerk. Good guy? Bad guy? Judge for yourself.

Sure, you've seen it already -- probably more than once. But there's almost a nostalgia to it now, a reminder that before Robert Downey Jr. put on the suit, decent superhero movies were few and far between. Indeed, it's thanks to Iron Man (and "Iron Man") that we've enjoyed so many years of Marvel movie goodness. This remains one of the all-time great origin stories, with an equally great villain and some much-needed humor.

You kind of expect that earlier "Mission: Impossible" movies would be available for streaming and download, but the latest one? Pleasant surprise! Equally pleasant was the movie itself, which could easily have been a misfire given that it's the fifth in the series -- and that Tom Cruise is starting to look a little, well, jowly. But, ho, fun stuff! Dazzling action sequences, some welcome funny bits, a plot that -- well, OK, does that even matter? I'd rank this as my second-favorite "Mission," the first being number three.
