I have spoken to Christina at RISCA (Rhode Island State Council on the
Arts) about a grant for our show for next year. She seemed very
positive and is willing to travel to Block Island to met us. I
suggested she come over when we have our show ending get together to
be able to meet us all, and that suits her fine. She is busy for 2
weeks in the middle of october but seemed pretty flexible. Let me know
your thoughts. Thanks Eric

After speaking with Christina it seems there is just too much
paperwork, timing issues, and the need to secure matching funds for a
group grant to be realistic at this point.

She suggested any and all RHODE ISLAND artists that will be in the
2008 show apply INDIVIDUALLY for a FELLOWSHIP grant. These are much
simpler and would be easier to get by far. Unfortunately they are only
available to RI Residents.

Here is the LINK to get yourself a Grant.

Hi Eric & everyone -
Don't believe I will be able to participate this year. Have signed on as a resident artist in one of the active Newport galleries, doing the Wickford Art Festival in July , entering a number of juried shows February through August, so things are starting to get very busy. It was a lot of fun, but I'd be spreading things too thin if I committed for a late spring - early summer piece.

You are right about getting Rhode Island grants. The state is pretty strict about recipients being RI based and on top of that, RI is in a fiscal meltdown, so it would not surprise me if grants were severely cut, or eliminated all together. Thanks again for your work in coordinating this venture, I think you've started something that could keep growing and attract a lot of attention.

Best regards to all ............  Ken

Ken - Congrats on all your upcoming work & shows. We thank you for
Your "BLOCKY" mascot and know that it will stand proud overlooking all
the future shows at our Block Island Show pasture. And if you do find
a spare moment, i'm sure we'll always be able to find a spot for one
of your new pieces.

Thanks Eric & all.....
