Karen is working on the Block Island Times and making some small
posters. Pieces are being added thru july so we're trying not to jump
the gun with publicity.

I have also emailed RISCA with info about us and asked them to post on
their web site.

its best to show the pics  under Arts & Crafts...  Submitted by a number of people involved, so that it is not spamming.  You need to cover RI, CT, and maybe the cape area.  Lots of areas will get some publicity and inquiries.  IT should be coordinated, so no overlapping and clear assignments.

I will handle it if you give the names of people that will list it.

It is listed under Providence - community - events 7/1 - 7/15. I just
checked. This listing is a call to artists. I think after Ken (2
pieces), Karen & Ryk (3-5 pieces?) and Debs (1 30ft long piece)
install their pieces we will be pretty good as far as artist
participation goes. I'm sure there will be room for a few more pieces
but i don't think we need to push for any more. If it still looks
sparce by the end of july i will make something else to instal. But
we'll see by the middle of next week as most should be in by then. Are
you making a block star? or were you kidding?

The arts & craft listing i saw is for items being sold. Is this what
you meant? or is there another catagory i missed?

Hi everybody, I created 3 posters so far with the "Sub Urban Artists"
logo signature on top then they just read " On Block Island, RI, July
thru August, featuring accomplished artists from throughout the
region" I had to do them pretty quickly, but they are not too bad.
only 8 1/2" x 14" in size. My daughter is going to Sandwich, Mass near
the Cape and I thought she should bring them and put them up.
She and her friend who is an intern there and both are artists as well
know where to place them. They know people who own unique gift and
craft shops there as well. Then I have 4 more I will place in RI and
Block Island on Monday when I go. Probablly at a Marina, and who knows
where else. Any ideas as to where they should go let me know.

the bi chamber is in the ferry parking lot. Maybe they can make some
copies and hand them out? I'm sure they can suggest the best places to
post sign. i spoke with them a few months ago when i was first trying
to set up this show. they were nice.

When I go over tomorrow I'll check with the chamber of commerce to see
what they recommend. Does the ferry have an info place on the boats to
post something? What about having them put in a link to our web site
for the summer? Ditto for the chamber of commerce?

The chamber might do it. Not sure what the deal with the boat is. Drop
some local names. It definatly helps in a big way on Block Island. I'm
a new member of the Block Island Arts and Crafts Guild (though they
probably don't know me),your cousin and Derek for sure. I did speak
with them months ago but that was it. And you are a well known Rhode
Island sculptor!

I started making a flyer this evening with an image of the site and
work installed as of July 7th. I will hold off until more work is
installed, if anyone can take an updated photo with all the work on
site, email it to me and I will update the flyer. A jpeg of the
suburban artists logo would also be good.

It sounds great to hear the momentum gathering now, I think th space
will be quite vibrant by the end of this week!

The Chamber is an organization who only promotes people who are joined
up with them, and that costs money.

Made it to the site today and set up two pieces near the curve of the
Van Lent property. Took a number of photos of all the pieces there to
date and will forward them to Eric shortly. I stopped at the Block
Island Times paper to give things a nudge , they mentioned that Karen
had been in earlier and were going to following thru on the project.
Nice work Karen, you got their attention. My cousin runs a package
delivery service there, and while he has no good way to display
posters, he said he will talk up the site in general. I got little
interest from the chamber of commerce & none from the ferry company on
placing a poster.

Derek Van Lent, owner of the property, came by as I was finishing the
installation. A nice guy. He asked that we be aware of the potential
for accidents at that curve and place the pieces far enough back from
the road to avoid problems. I guess between the mopeds, cars, bikes,
joggers & walkers, that spot sees a lot of traffic.

Otherwise, the weather cooperated and we had a great day on the
island.......... Ken

Hi Deb -
Just finished sending Eric a number of pics we took at the site
yesterday, some may be redundant with what he & you already have. Liked
your wood piece, did you do that by steaming them? ...... Ken

Yes the wood is steamed, its pennsylvanian black cherry, I hope its
not too near the road... I was a bit wary of that but saw no
alternatives. I will email the flyer I have made to Eric (please can
you circulate it amonst the SU group for approval) - if anyone has a
better pic, feel free to email it to me.

Jon - We await the "Block Star" with great anticipation.

Karen - thanks for getting some posters around the mainland.

Ken - got the pics they are now up on our site.

Debs - Thanks for doing the e flyer. Just a name change and it looks
ready to me.
Some of the print is fuzzy. I'm assuming that is because it was
transfered to a jpeg. What program did you use to make it? If i can
get a clear file, I could sent my wife a file to print up. She works
at a school with a pretty good color copier. I'd like to put 1 in a
window box at the site and hopefully can get some around the island
when i have some time up there in late july.

Jon - I have it posted in

CL - RI under events 7/1- 7/15 & 7/15/7/29 and artists (only Artist
cat. would accept photos)
CL - Eastern Conn. events 7/14 - 7/28 and artists

Events only lets you do 14 day max.

Had to change it up to get 2nd, 3rd, 4th posts to be accepted

The new version of the flyer is not so fuzzy - I think that was
because I re-sized it wrong. This is better, 150 dpi should be fine to
print.

Debs Thanks for tightening up the poster, much clearer now! I have
again resized it to fit in the "Pages" section below. I will also send
it out as an email attachment for forwarding.

Karen good work on the BI Times.

Parents called to say they wrote a short bit on us with a photo.

Don't see it in the BI times web site yet but it is definately in last
