Hi  Subsurface Newbie here. I'm a dive instructor and a keen Linux user. I have Gentoo Linux (pretty much up to date - etc) on my Laptop and am so stoked to find Subsurface. Have loaded from the Android store on to my Samsung S9.
I have both Suunto Cobra (RS232) and a D6i (USB).

Downloaded the software - ran "make" and it says "run build.sh first" which does not exist.
Seem to have most prerequisites and ran an "emerge -av libdivecomputer" - though now wondering if that was the right thing to do.
Also did a "git clone http://github.com/Subsurface-divelog/subsurface.git" - still no "build.sh" file :-(

Can someone please hold my hand and get me started - please?

If you just want to run Subsurface then compilation may not be necessary, just grab the appimage and use that.

After being unable to compile for Gentoo (I see it used to be in Portage years back!) I downloaded the appimage. Got this working and I'm a happy person.

Its downloaded from my D6i :-)

I do thing though that a "location" should be two fields - e.g. an area (Ponta do Ouro = town in Southern Mozambique) and dive site (Paradise Reef - there are quite a few different reefs!) - either that or something else between country and location.

It probably doesn’t need to work with your libraries, the appimage has everything it needs baked into it.

Thanks - but from where would I get such an image - that uses my versions of the libraries. Willing to give it a trial though!

Each particular location is a single place so to my mind a single field is appropriate, I know what you mean about wanting to organise your sites though. The way I organise my sites works for me, I go Country - City - Site or something like that so an example entry would be ‘UK - Plymouth - Scylla’. Sometimes I go a bit further and add the body of water in too so an example of this could be ‘Adriatic - Croatia - Plomin Luka - Vis’.

Some people don’t really care about this though any just give their names a single name entry and use the geo-lookup to add in the meaningful data.

Hope this helps

It's in scripts/build.sh
There's an INSTALL file in the repository. I wonder what's inside...

(sorry - I know that's a snide remark... but I struggle with how much more obvious we can make it)

To add my 2=Y=  for whatever it's worth ....

Back with Slackware 2.3, when I was just starting out with linux, the only answer I ever got to those types of questions was RTFM.  I kind of thought that was a tradition in the linux subculture.
