Afternoon all
Subsurface 6.0.5504
macOS Sequoia 15.7.4
Whilst I'm able to sign in online via the web interface, but opening the log from cloud storage shows it as local cache, with a red footer bar stating "Failure taking cloud storage online".
Set up for cloud storage as the default, but am unable to open the log without this error.
Screenshot 2026-03-27 at 15.54.18.png
If I close then re-open the log, it opens without the error but still states as the local cache:

I suspect I'm missing something obvious, but would appreciate help with how to resolve.
Many thanks
Martin

So when you look at the cloud section in the preferences, what does it state at the top?
Screenshot 2026-03-27 at 11.12.23.png

"credentials verified" is what you are looking for.

Assuming you have that, look at the File menu in the menubar. Is there a checkmark next to Cloud storage online?

If not, what happens when you click on that menu entry?

Hi Dirk
When I launch SubSurface, it states successful cloud connection, but the Cloud storage online item in the menu isn’t ticked. If I click the item it reloads the log, again, stating successful cloud connection followed by successfully opened data file, but then the error bar appears.
Please let me know if I can provide any further information.
Many thanks
Martin

If you look carefully at my questions, you will see that I asked specifically about what it says at the top of the preferences/cloud. I know that it doesn't say "successful cloud connection".
The words there are important. Please don't paraphrase, please don't hand-wave, please just copy exactly what it says. Or provide a screenshot.

Also, don't you think that it would be interesting for us to know what that error bar says?

Hi Dirk
It says:
Subsurface cloud storage (credentials verified)
Screenshot 2026-03-30 at 14.53.05.png
The error bar says exactly as the message subject:
Screenshot 2026-03-30 at 14.52.47.png
If I click Open cloud storage from the File menu, it does something, the error goes away but the top of the screen still states its the local cache:

Many thanks

At this point I think we'll need to see a verbose log. The details of this depend a bit on how you installed Subsurface. Typically it might be under /Applications, so in this case I would ask you to run Subsurface like this from a Terminal:

/Applications/Subsurface.app/Contents/MacOS/Subsurface -v > /tmp/subsurfacelog.txt 2>&1

then go through the same steps of attempting to take the cloud storage online. Then quit Subsurface and send us the log file.
Feel free to send it to me off list if you worry about privacy of what is in the log

This is very odd:

INFO: git storage: authentication to cloud storage failed
ERROR: Authentication to cloud storage failed.
ERROR: Cannot sync with cloud server, working with offline copy

So for some reason it says "account verified" in the preferences, yet when trying to access the account, your authentication fails.

I assume you haven't changed your password recently? I'm not quite sure what to suggest because this doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
But sometimes brute force it what it takes. So maybe do a password reset and update the credentials both on your Mac and your phone?

Very very odd.

Hi Dirk
Thanks for looking at this. No, not changed the password recently, but will do as you suggest and try a reset.
Will report back!
Many thanks
Martin

Could this be a password that contains characters that are supported in one place, but not in others?
