User error! Just discovered that I was supposed to press OK button to complete the operation!

But subsequently discovered that if I open Preferences immediately after this import, subsurface crashes.

Good news on two fronts.

First, glad you found the OK button — that catches people occasionally; it is easy to miss when the focus is on watching the progress bar.

Second, the crash you found when opening Preferences after the import is a known bug that has already been fixed. The root cause was that the dive planner's internal model could be left in an inconsistent state after the dive list changed (whether from an import or from scrolling past the end of the list), and opening the Preferences dialog would then trigger a crash. A fix was merged in July 2026.

You are running 6.0.5576, which pre-dates that fix. The first build containing it is 6.0.5650. The current nightly build for Windows is 6.0.5692 and is available here:

https://github.com/subsurface/nightly-builds/releases/tag/v6.0.5692-CICD-release

Download subsurface-6.0.5692-CICD-release-installer.exe, run it, and the Preferences crash should be gone. Note that these nightly builds are not signed with an official key, so Windows will warn you during installation — that is expected; just confirm you are happy to proceed.

Please let us know if the crash still occurs after updating.

Ngā mihi
