Ok, I'm just about gone nuts trying to get SubSurface to import my dives from Oceanlog. I'm getting ready to purchase a new Ratio iX3M2 and they use SubSurface. Has anyone tried this and succeeded? If you have please reach out to me. When I do the export/import I lose about 80% of my data. Plus you can't go back into SubSurface and edit the information. There has to be a way, but I can't see it. Please help if you can. Thanks

What data are you missing? Are you sure this data is in the export file that you are getting from Oceanlog? It could be that Oceanlog is not exporting the information rather than Subsurface (Please just try to capitalize the initial S) not importing the data.

Once dives are imported into Subsurface it's also pretty easy to edit and adjust information that's in there. That should 'just work' and not really require anything particularly clever.

Thanks for the reply. As far as the data not being available in the ZXU file that when imported I have verified that in dive information is in the file when opened in a text format. Now as far as maybe it's not formatted in a way for Subsurface to recognize may be another issue.

Now when I import directly from my Oceanic PP3 into Subsurface it still fails to migrate most of the data.  Items missing are..... Everything under all the tabs with the exception of the date and time of dive and the water temp.

Next is the inability to edit some of the fields in the app. These are Duration of the dive, Max Depth, Avg Depth, Water type/Density under the Information tab. Also unable to edit the information under the Summary tab.

Screen shots can be provided.

Thanks

Don

ZXU is not a file format but the implementation of a collective nightmare. But that's just a side comment. If you provide a ZXU file with information that we aren't parsing correctly, there's a decent chance that one of the developers (Hi Miika) will take a look.

As for the "inability to edit fields"... that's a feature. Subsurface is primarily designed to be used with dive information downloaded from dive computers. Initially you weren't able to even manually add dives. And in the context of downloaded information, there's no point to allowing a user to change the data that came from the dive computer.

So it may be that you are looking at tool with a different use case than what we had in mind for Subsurface

Thanks for that information. I just uninstall/installed the app (twice) and it's allowing me to Add a Dive and enter all the information manually. So that's half the problem resolved. And with what you are saying about pulling data from the computer and not being about to edit makes sense. But I believe that kind of hinders folks trying to do a migrate their data. But I think we are moving forward. Miika if you need any data logs from me I'll gladly assist.

Thanks everyone

Don
