Hi,
I used to be able to connect my cressi Giotto, through the Cressi PC link, directly to subsurface. I don't think I updated subsurface, but now it is saying 'com3 not found'. I then updated to 5.05 and got the same error.
It's not a connection issue to my computer, since I can connect my dive computer using the Cressi PC interface, and can download my .dlg files and export to txt. However, when I try to import the txt file into Subsurface, I get 4 empty dives instead of the actual dive (and I can't import the dlg file, since it doesn't seem to be supported)
Any help for how to fix this (it used to work, and I'm not sure what I've changed....).
Thanks!

It sounds like you have two separate issues going on and let's try not to confuse the two.

Download from computer
Import txt log file

It would be helpful if you could try a few previous versions of Subsurface to see if this worked in one version but not in another version. You've tried 5.0.5 and i guess the version before that was 5.0.4 but if you could try a few previous versions to see if it starts working again that would be useful.

I can't help so much on the txt import but if you could provide an example export file that could help to see where things are going wrong.

Hi,
Thanks - you're right, it is 2 separate issues (I was trying to import the txt file since I couldn't connect the dive computer directly to subsurface). I've attached the txt and dlg file as an example.
I tried going back to a previous version (4.8.0), and it is still not connecting (unable to connect to com3). I know it worked with this computer 6 months ago, (not sure what version that was ), so it may be some setting has changed, but I'm not sure what to look for, since it can connect through the Cressi PC interface app.
Thanks for your help,

hm...

it seems you are  using a windows-pc. are you shure the interface is conected to COM3? maybe try another port (e.g. com4 or so) or take a look to the device manager....

So nothing in Subsurface changed to suddenly stop supporting a dive computer. That's just not how things work.
Sure, occasionally I mess things up when building a binary, but then we typically get dozens and hundreds of reports in very quick succession.

So your first question should be "what changed on my computer" (and surprisingly often the answer I get when I follow up is "oh, this is a new computer, but it's again a Windows machine"). Drivers on Windows are a complete mess and continue to confuse me - there are different types of serial drivers available for the various type of cables and not all of them work with Subsurface. And every time I think I understand what I need to do, another Windows update breaks things again.

I'm not familiar with the Cressi download cable and with the drivers it needs. If the Cressi app connects then I guess the cable should show up in the device manager when plugged in and connected to the dive computer. Can you check what that tells you about the driver used? Maybe that will point us in the right direction.

/D
