Did you have a chance to try the suggestion in our FAQ
http://subsurface-divelog.org/faq/ ?

Why is Subsurface not able to download my dives?

Clean the contacts. Clean the contacts again. Make sure the connector is
firmly connected. Wiggle it. Seriously. Make sure the dive computer is in
transfer mode (this isn’t necessary for all dive computers but for many
common ones). Check with other software that the download works in
general. Try another cable.

The vast majority of this type of problems is caused by dirty / wet
contacts or damaged cables.

First, Thank you for your help!

I cleaned and re-cleaned the contacts, wiggled the ‘parts’ and still the same error. Below see screen shots of subsurface.log, download screen and settings for USB Com3 port are matched. We get ‘Dive data import error’.

More information:

Using original Suunto Solution  PC-Interface

Using USB-to-Serial cable

I do not have other diving software to try. Lost my original Suunto software

I do not have any reference material handy, but I would try changing the following settings on the com port:
- Bits per second: 9600
- Stop bits: 1

Mike,

Do you have a "Solution" or a "Solution Alpha"? Despite the similar name, these
are very different devices, with a completely different communication protocol.

I still have a copy of Suunto Dive Manager v1.6. I have (temporary) uploaded it
here:

http://www.libdivecomputer.org/tmp/SDM16.exe

Can you give this a try, and report back? If it does work, can you also capture
the communicating between SDM and the dive computer with PortMon? The procedure
is described here:

http://www.libdivecomputer.org/tmp/SDM16.exe

(I have absolutely no idea if this old version of SDM will work on recent
Windows versions or not.)

Changing the settings in the Windows driver properties will have no effect at
all. This are just the default settings. Any sane application using the serial
port (which includes libdivecomputer) will configure the serial port on its own,
ignoring the defaults. You can see this happening in the logfile:

INFO: Open: name=COM3
INFO: Configure: baudrate=1200, databits=8, parity=0, stopbits=2, flowcontrol=0

Jef,

1.       First, Thanks for your efforts and help!

2.       It is a  "Solution" computer  NOT a "Solution Alpha”.

3.       I downloaded Suunto Dive Manager v1.6.and it looks like it should work. I noticed SDM 1.6 is dated around 1999. My computer is a 1992 version??

4.       However, I received the following error when attempting to transfer from the dive computer:

cid:image001.png@01D0DE76.1F3A8360

I am assuming the transfer simply timed out due to lack of activity. Received the message in about 5 seconds however. I retried by placing the Solution dive computer in both LOG and PRO modes, same results.

You suggested that I try PortMon. I understand Windows 7 does not support PortMon. However, I downloaded the following software, but do not know what I am looking at or what to send you.

I hate to give up and do without a software  managing my dives!

The timeout in SDM look very similar to the failure in subsurface.

Does your solution have a low battery? That's a very common source for download
problems. It seems that the pc interface requires more battery power than during
normal operation. So there might be enough power left for diving, but not for
the pc interface.

Another suggestion is to try a different usb-serial cable.

Forget about Portmon for now. As long as SDM isn't able to download anything,
there is nothing to capture either.

OK,
I installed a new battery (takes an internal special battery good for 200 dives) and tried a different cable. Same results.

Contacted Suunto and they no longer will give support for a Solution Dive Computer. Bummer!

One question or comment: The PC -SDC Interface requires that the computer be inserted and then 'twisted' to lock into place. I know that in the past the SDC would turn on and, I guess, go into LOG mode when it is locked into place. I checked and the SDC is turned on as expected.

Beginning to give-up!
